  1. What a difference a couple of days make! I went to Quincy and drove through Blue Hills, Houghtons is just as DogBone reported, a nice 3' soft water ring around it and Blue Hills Res had a ring around it as well. The res in Canton had areas of fishable water from shore as well. This week with the rain and warmer weather coming in should make a real difference!
  2. Hey folks, I made a post last spring about how my son's LL baseball coach was dismissed mid-way through the season. I ended up coaching as an assistant for the last 6 or so games and decided to throw my name in the hat for this year. Well I got picked to manage a LL team this year and had a couple of practices so far. Man, the kids are really engaged and are having fun. My first 2 practice turnouts are above 90% considering we headed into a long weekend (kids had Friday off), so I can't complain. So far we look to have a good team which should be comptetitve, and if the last 2 practices are any indication of what's to come, they should have a fun year of baseball. Wish us (The Nationals) luck!
  3. I must apologize up front about the birds nest...LOL...I can't tell you how many times I go into the off season, strip my reels of old line, remove from the rod, wipe the rod down, clean the guides, break the reel completely down, clean - oil - lube and install the reel back on the rod. I get close to my first fishing outing for the year and I install fresh line, tie on a brand new kiss in the mail from the bait monkey, hit the water wind up and birds nest! I completely forgot to adjust the cast control and braking system! Must have happened 5 years in a row before I learned my lesson...LOL Good luck this year!
  4. I saw some open waters at some smaller ponds in Canton, but nothing in the bigger/deeper waters. I hope the rains today will help, I'm off next week and would love to wet a line!
  5. That's good news Tom, I figure your area will open up faster than us north of you. Hope all goes well down south, I suppose this is your annual trip to see your daughter? Good luck! Great reports guys, keep em coming. My nightmare project on Boylston Street (Verizon Destination Store) is over and I can't wait to start fishing and relaxing.
  6. 29* for the high today aint gonna get us there fast...
  7. That's in MA? Awesome, the rains will certainly help. Great report.
  8. Alright guys, a little early, but we're heading into spring, so lets gets the ice out reports going.
  9. All is good my friend, thank you. I was actually thinking about you a couple/few weeks ago. My dishwasher decided to play tricks on me, she decided not to fill all the way. Happened a few years ago as well. At the time, it was the strainor or aerator or screen piece, whatever you want to call it, in the water inlet assembly valve that was clogged. It was clogged this time as well, but only this time, it turned out to be the valve itself was stuck. I'm like "man, slonezp gave me a name of a good source!", and I couldn't find it for the life of me. Anyway, I found the part at RepairClinic.com for a resonable price and shipping and had her going again like a champ. Short money and about 30 minutes later, I was done. I replaced the supply line while I was under there, it looked like it needed a rest.
  10. Yes I do: I was standing on the bed of my truck last weekend when I took that pic.
  11. I'm with you my friend! 12 hour days in Boston followed by long drives home followed by snow removal of not just the drive way but the roof as well!?! I'm done!
  12. Been a crazy few months, I hope you all are doing well. Hoping things slow down, would love to catch up with you all again.
  13. I started a thread in the "Other Fish Species" and asked our fellow BR members how to fish a Little Cleo, so I went out this morning and got 2 and missed 1 trout all while learning to fish a spoon. I know what you're thinking, but I really don't know how to fish them. I guess today I'm getting better. Take care guys and good luck the rest of the year!
  14. So I went out this morning to put what I learned on here into action: 1 bite no hook up, I believe it was a trout, there was a boil on the surface and the water temps were pretty cold, that doesn't mean there were no bass around, but I'm pretty sure it was a trout. About 4 or 5 cast later in the same area I hook into a really nice rainbow trout. Bent down to pick it up to remove the hook and it unbuttoned itself. 0 for 2, but getting closer. Moved around a bit with no luck. It was time I hit the road to go to work so I made a 2 casts at the spot where I had some luck and low and behold, I landed a rainbow trout! It was bleeding pretty good, so instead of going thru the process of taking a pic, I decided to get it back in the water. I know, pics or it didn't happen, that's up to you...LOL Anyway, here's what I used: JF and Bluebasser, you're absolutely right, getting the right speed is key. It felt great to actually catch a fish with these lures and I can see why they've been around for so long. They have unbelievable action and what surprised me was you can actually fish them pretty slow. I always thought you had to fish these fast which is probably why I was doing it all wrong to begin with. Many thanks for the tips guys, all were very helpful. I like how you added you favorite spoons to the thread, now I have something for the Bait Monkey!
  15. Great post guitarglynn1! Sounds like you're becoming a "spoon expert"! Thanks for the tips. JF, you think 1/3 oz will work for both species? BTW, I forgot all about that pic, that pic never gets old. When I was doing some online searches an old thread from 2012 from here showed that pic, I beleive I said the same thing...LOL... What size is that lure? Thanks for the retrieve tip. Based on what I read, I guess you can fish these things much the same way as a lipless crank?
  16. Hey guys, the state just stocked our waters with trout so I wanted to target both trout and bass this month, do you think a 1/3 oz Little Cleo is a good all around size for both species? I'm not a spoon fisher and really want to learn to fish them, what are some of your techniques?
  17. Hey all, does anyone polish or wax the inner ring where the brake weights rub on? If so, has your casting distance increased?
  18. Congrats Bluebasser86!
  19. Glad to have you, pull up a chair and lend an ear.
  20. BR1AN, did the state stock already? I thought that happened 2nd or 3rd week of October?
  21. I'm with you Munkin. No worries tho, I won't lose much sleep if we're wrong...
  22. I can't remember where I saw this and I know I never had it and really want to try it tho, salmon burgers. Ground salman made into burgers. Look really good!
  23. Just PM's a link to you, I was unable to post the link here: Not sure if it's an older one, but it is a LC RTO 150
