  7. I see this as an opportunity to educate. If anyone has any thoughts that 100% pure catch & release is the best thing for a fishery, then please go to this link and read the first dozen or so articles. Lots of great information here that do an excellent job of explaining how this is a problem, and why selective harvest works. http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/about.html#fish Enjoy!
  8. Fine. I did a good job of keeping this a secret and you had to blab it all to everyone!

You're going to get a million different answers on this. Good luck!
  10. Ya, well, they paraded Elvis' casket down the street. So this is nothing new. Sorry guys, but I have to close this thread. Too many people have strong opinions about him, and I get a flurry of complaints whenever his name is mentioned.
  11. I used the "rubber band" technique for years, using rubber skirt material. Then I discovered Peg-Its and never went back. Same concept, but much faster and easier.
  12. Umm.... Obama has absolutely nothing to do with this bill. None, nada, zero, zip. It was introduced by U. S. Rep. Bobby Rush, IL. In fact, he first introduced it in 2007 during the Bush years. It failed and he's trying again now. No doubt it will fail again. So... can we get back to fishing now? This topic is dangerously close to crossing the "no politics" boundaries, if it hasn't already.
  13. Ease up gentlemen. Most anglers carry fishing licenses. If you know people who fish without a license, then you should report them. Plain and simple. As for keeping fish, not a big deal nor harm to the fishery, so long as it's done within legal limits. Seriously - too much releasing and not enough keeping is detrimental to most fisheries. So don't let it ruin your day if somebody keeps one every now and then. Whether or not you keep or release a fish is entirely up to you. No worries.
  14. Using 20# test for crappie fishing is like hanging picture nails with a sledge hammer! You might get it in, but you'll do more damage than it's worth in the process. ...you're likely to rip the hook right out of it's mouth using that kind of equipment. Nothing to be proud of.
  15. Well, before y'all get your panties in a wad and freak out over this, do a little research first. I'll help you: Contrary to the e-mail quoted above, the bill would not require applicants to "submit to a physical and mental evaluation at any time of their choosing"; applicants would have to authorize the release of any existing mental health records. Also, the right of inspection to ascertain compliance with the law would apply to "any place in which firearms or firearm products are manufactured, stored, or held, for distribution in commerce," not to ordinary households. The fact that the bill does not have even a single co-sponsor makes it unlikely that it will ever be brought to a vote before Congress, much less passed. The lack of a co-sponsor is an indication of a lack of enthusiasm for it among other congressmen. They feel it is too far-reaching and repressive of gun owners' rights to merit serious consideration by a majority of Congress. Obama has absolutely nothing to do with this bill. It was introduced by U. S. Rep. Bobby Rush, IL in 2007 during the Bush years. It failed and he's trying again now. So it's another worthless bill proposed by an overzealous politician in an effort to make his constituents feel like he's doing something. Fo-gheta-bout-it and get back to fishing!
  16. If you release them immediately, they have a much greater chance of survival. The video is geared towards anglers who keep them in their livewells for several hours. As for breaking the jaw - hard to on a fish weighing less than 2 lbs, unless you really torque on his jaw while taking the hook out (easier to do on the dinks). As a fish weighs more, then holding him properly becomes even more important.
  17. Well tomorrow is the memorial, and then it will start to calm down. The tabloids and "media" will go back to Brittney Spears and Madonna soon. Sorry guys, but I have to lock this thread. Too many people complain about MJ threads when they appear.
  18. No glam shots please. Thanks!
  19. That's excellent news! Congratulations!!
  20. Watch this video - it demonstrates the proper way to hold and handle fish: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/fish-care-in-the-livewell.html
  21. BTW - This question is covered in the FAQ.
  22. Before casting a lure on that prize-winning bass, you have to get your boat to the water-that means making sure your tow vehicle and trailer are in tip-top condition. Check out these tips: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/boating-safety.html
  23. What daviscw said. The more light penetration there is, the darker the fish. I presume this helps them blend in with the more pronounced shadows when it's bright, and more subtle shadows when it's cloudy, but I'm only guessing.
  24. You're pushing it pretty close to the edge. A full tank of gas on that boat (36 gals) is about 250lbs. With gear, batteries, and all, the boat itself is around 2,000lbs. The trailer for my 20' Ranger is 1,400 lbs, and while I doubt your trailer is close to that, you only have about 500 lbs left for wiggle room. With numbers that close, I agree with Way2slow in that you're going to have to weigh the actual boat & trailer to know. Keep in mind tongue weight is about 10% of the total weight. So make sure your hitch can handle it.
  25. This video explains everything you need to know, and answers all the questions you've asked so far: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/fish-care-in-the-livewell.html
