Marauder is right. The pros aren't using any secret, custom equipment or lures, other than prototypes on occasion. I think that's one of the biggest misconceptions about the pros. I've had the privilege of being able to look in their boats during the Classic, and it looks just like a club tournament - for the most part, they're all using the same stuff that you'd see on the shelves of your favorite tackle shop. That's not to say they don't get first crack at the latest equipment or never use prototypes. They do, but it's minor compared to everything they use.

I'll be honest with you guys, we have a Facebook account because we've heard (very loudly) that if you have a business, you MUST have a Facebook account. Sounds like similar rigs were used for different species decades ago. However, using the technique for bass became popular in Japan in the early 90's, where they called it the "Always Lucky" rig (loose translation). It didn't take long for it to catch on along the West Coast by the mid-90's, and it grew from there.

There's your problem. You need to trim all the way down before taking off, and then start trimming up when the boat starts to get on plane. Continue to trim up as it gains speed (you may have to stop and then start again a few times, depending on how fast it gets to top speed). At top speed, play with the trim to find the "sweet spot". If you reach a spot where trimming up causes the boat to slow down, or the RPMs to go up without any speed gain, you've gone too far (typically you'll get a big rooster tail when you do this). Back it down a bit until the boat picks up speed again and you'll be at the "sweet spot".

Correct. The newer ones are like a button. A clip holds the button out, so when it's jerked out, it goes down and activates.

Yes Mike, that's what I meant. A hotfoot won't work the same way. It won't shut the engine off, thus the boat will still move forward at idle speed, making it very difficult to "catch" while swimming, and downright dangerous to board from the aft. I have a hotfoot and would never rely on that instead of my killswitch.

Oh it's definitely a peace-keeper tactic. Set a vandal on fire in your neighborhood and trust me, the crime rate will go WAY down!
