  1. Neither. I watched a guy miss a dozen bass or do with those. I like hooks with some BITE! My money is a Gammy Heavy Cover Worm hook, tied with a snell.
  2. I've done before. Get any oil on the spool lip and it creates friction when the spool spins. Do what DVT said, wipe the spool and races down. You'll be fine!
  3. Those things are AWESOME! I grew up fishing them in Jersey. Awesome bait wacky, Texas or split shot rigged.
  4. 20 to 40 feet? I'd say throw a jig or drop shot, especially if the water is clear! If you are looking to cover water and get reaction strikes, research the "stroking" technique with heavy football jigs. The only way a crank bait is going to reach 40 ft is by long lining on 8 or 10 lb test fluoro. That technique won a recent BASS tourney. As far as favorite cranks for fishing the 20 ft mark: Strike King 6XD, Norman DD22, Bomber Fat Free Shad BDS8, and H2O Xpress, Rapala DT Metal 20. All will catch fish, as long as you much the hatch. Use fluoro between 8-12lb test, and make long casts. Don't be ashamed to use the old' kneel and reel technique. You should pull a few fish up! Good luck!
  5. How about tips on wrapped loops, also!
  6. Does anyone know how, or can post a video on, how to create a closed loop on spinnerbait wire? A loop as in where you would attach the swivel for the blade at the end of the arm. Thanks!
  7. I have handled both. Both great sticks, but the Powell seems to have a nicer action, lighter, and it's less money. I buy Powells.
  8. I want to form my own spinnerbait arms, as well as make some online spinners for bass and pike. I'm looking for .051 wire, but don't know where to get it? Where do I look? Home depot didn't have what i needed.
  9. d**n it!!!!!! I just started buying Lews reels...... Well, I guess I'll have to buy one of those pretty little Abus... or two... or four...
  10. OR......... You can get a Powell!!!!! The 765 is a great flipping stick, lots of backbone. I like a little give, so I use their 735. Either way, lifetime warranty and half the price. Can't beat that!
  11. If you want something lightweight, very sensitive, perfect action, and affordable, you need look no further than Powell. You can get a 7' MH Max Series for $140, or wait until certain websites have their Memorial Day sale... Max series rods come with a lifetime warranty and great customer service (two very important, but often overlooked qualities when selecting a new rod). If money is an issue, buy one of their 7'2" MH Diesel Series rod. It comes with no warranty, but for $70, who cares? Bottom line is: Powell has what you are looking for!

  13. I saw of Pitman Creek Wholesale's twitter feed today that they apparently just recieved either a sample or shipment (I think the first one) of the new 2013 Abu Garica Revo reels. According to the quote, the new Revos are lighter, stronger, and more compact (thank GOD for the latter). This makes sense, with ICAST in a few months and all Revos dropping in price. I'm no insider (I think I've made that clear), but I DO LOVE FISHING GOSSIP!!!!! Can't wait to see the new line! What do you all hope to see in the Gen III Revos?
  14. I think I may have the perfect frog setup: -7'1" H Powell Endurance (touch of play in the tip, but the rest is all backbone) -Lews Tourament 7.1:1 (need a high speed to pick up any slack) -65# Spiderwire or Suffix Performance -SPRO Bronzeye 65 I like a shorter rod (7' ish) rather than a longer one (7'3" ish). It helps me skip better. Also, you want something with a lot of backbone, but a little give in the tip; my Powell has the perfect blend. Ask clackerbuzz, he fished with me this weekend. I had 8 blowups, and landed all 8 bass. 100% hookup:land ratio. I give my setup all the credit.
  15. Underwater logs/stumps. I've been known to wrap the line around an overhang or dock piling, too!
  16. Hey all! I've been reading some reviews about Yo Zuri Hybrid. They say that it will brake at a higher lb test than what the line is actually rated for (ex: 8lb test will actually brake around 12lb) Does anyone use this for cranking? I was thinking of getting some 8lb for my cranking rod. My concern is strength, stretch and abrasion resistence. Also, does anyone flip with it? I hear the heavier lines are a little stiff. I was thinking 15lb or 20lb. What about Drop Shotting? I think the 6lb would be perfect for it, if it breaks closer to 9lbs. Any help would be great. Thanks! -Mega
  17. Zoom fat Albert grub, or berkley ripple shad.
  18. If you want a great, lightweight, sensitive rod, look at Powell. Their Diesel line might be perfect for you! If you "need" a warranty, you could buy one of their Max rods.
  19. Lately, I've been using Gamazatsu's Heavy Cover Worm Hook for ALL of my plastics needs. My "lost fish ration" has dropped significantly. i lose VERY FEW fish with those. Keep something in mind: it may be your rod or line. Heavy wire hooks are thicker in diameter, and therefore require a little more pressure to properly sink into a bass' mouth. Light wire hooks dont require a lot of pressure to penetrate. So, if you select the very best heavy wire hook in the world, but it doesnt mean anything if your tossing it on light line or a flimsy pole. I would be sure to use a MH Fast action rod and at least 12# test of something with low stretch. Hope that helps you land a few more. Good luck out there! -Mega
  20. I have two MG's. One in 7.1 and one in 5.4. The 5.4 is, obviously, on my 7'5" Powell Endurance glass/composite deep cranking rod. The 7.1 is on my Powell 7'3" H flipping rod. I think the deep spool on the 7.1 is the best feature because I can old more heavy line (20# Seaguar Fluoro), so I can make longer casts/pitches on heavier line. I have fallen in love with the Tournament series, however. That thing casts a friggin' mile!
  21. I like something with a little more "give" in the tip for reaction type lures. However, dont rule that out as a good swim jig/chatterbait/spinnerbait rod. Think "short range" casting. Worms and Jigs skipped under docks are also well suited.
  22. Powell Diesel 7' MH Glass. Powell makes the most lightweight, sensitive fiberglass you will EVER encounter. And, they are $70 (from TW with free shipping)! They do not come with a warranty, but for $70, who cares??????
  23. I use a Powell Endurance 7'1" Heavy action rod for my frogging. It has great backbone, balances at the reel, and doubles as a great flipping/punching rod, should the need come up. I also have a Powell Max 7'3" Heavy rod for flipping. If you were looking for a longer from rod, you could go that route. If length is not an issue, Tackle Warehouse has Powell Endurance 6'9" Heavy action rods in their CLEARANCE BIN!!!! That would make one HELL of a frog skipping rod at an UNBETABLE PRICE ($110 I believe)! Good luck! You cant go wrong with Powell!
  24. What do you use a copolymer line for? Is it more like mono, or more like flouro? Is it effective for topwater? Flipping? Crankbaits? General info on where/when/what to use it with? Thanks!
  25. Anyone use this line for flipping/worm or similar techniques? How does it perform? What do you like it for? What will you NEVER use this for?
