  1. My buddy tosses a 1/2 oz Flipping jig tipped with a 10" Powerworm. I've seen him land some friggin' hogs with it. I've also seen him lose a jig or two to pike (Southeastern Pa). I've seen other guys tip buzz baits and spinnerbaits with Senkos, but that's a little less weird and more "Wow, you really think that thing is magical"... Personally, I'm pretty old fashioned. To me, tossing a 10" worm is a little ridiculous, but they work. I also have a tough time tossing a swim bait much bigger than 5" (it's a confidence thing). Try a swim jig tipped with a split ring swivel and a size 0 or 1 Indiana blade. No other trailer. It can be great on pressured or suspended fish!
  2. I once caught a 3# smallie on a Bronzeye 65 Tropical White. Skipped it under an overhang and he was there. Wasn't a reaction strike either, as I walked it about four times before he hit it. Smallie WILL demolish a frog, but like Smalljaw said, you will doubtfully fish it where smallie live.
  3. Do EWG trebles come though cover better than round bend trebles?
  4. Has no one ever used them????? I find that hard to believe, especially here!!!!
  5. Powell....... Anything from Powell!!!!!
  6. Does anyone use them, particularly the share bill? They look good, but I want some reviews. I cant seem to find any. Thanks!
  7. How do you anchor the screws where the split rings and trebles go? Is there a process? Do you screw, then epoxy the hole?
  8. I'm more concerned with the "snaggyness" of the hooks, rather than the fish holding power. Thanks for the info though. Gammy is coming out with a SS EWG treble soon. I'll buy that one over any Mustad!
  9. Brent Chapman recently won an Elite Series event on Toledo Bend using a football jig tipped with a Brush Hog. If you go to Bass Master *, Video Library, you can watch the whole tournament; there is a close up shot of his jig and trailer combo at some point. Mike McClelland makes no bones about his favorite jig: a Jewel Heavy Cover Football Jig topped with a brush hog. Gerald Swindle, however, likes to toss heavy shakey heads (3/8-3/4oz) trailered by a full size brush hog. Both methods catch fish. It's all about confidence.
  10. Ok, so I have heard both sides of the aisle: KVD prefers EWG hooks on all his hardbaits, while Rick Clunn preaches the round bend. I've used both, caught fish on both, but I feel like they're each have their place. So, does one design have an advantage over another in a specific situation? I, for instance, could see EWG hooks being more efficient on a squarebill around cover, due to the inward turned points. Any thoughts?
  11. Last week, I purchased one of each Diesel Rod from Powell's website. There are three casting models: 705CB Glass, 723 CEF, 765 C, and one spinning model: 6103 M. I splurged a little, but as a Powell owner (all my rods are either Max or Endurance), I think that I just might be the right guy for the job, as I know exactly how their higher end rods feel and handle and will be able to note any differences. They should arrive this week, and I will be able to flex them out this weekend. Hopefully, I can post the review by Sunday night. Stay tuned for a FULL Diesel line review....... finally........
  12. Sounds like we need to book a trip together..... DVT is from Milford as well.
  13. Hey, I'm from Milford! I've only ever caught Pickeral in Shahola, but the. Again, I've never been in a boat there. The Philly area actually has some great pieces of water for LM around it. I was on Green Lane the other day, and my five biggest went 17lbs. Not bad for Pa...
  14. I was on *** and reading about HALO Fishing. I knew they had rods, but aparently have some baitcasters coming out soon. I know nothing about them, and their website only says "coming soon" with a fuzzy picture of one of the reels. It looks wonderful..... Anyone know anything else? Inquiring minds NEED TO KNOW!!!!!
  15. Don't do it! It sounds "scammy".
  16. I'm sure we'll find them in clearance bins everywhere at some point.
  17. As a salesman, I agree with the "sales ploy" part. However, I do NOT agree with calling this reel an inferior product before you have even had a chance to use it. Im a fan of instant anti-reverse. In all honesty, after seeing the new Lews offerings this year, Abu Garcia looks that much better (coming from someone that owns ALL Lews reels).
  18. I have all Powells. I assume you are referring to their glass/composite cranking rods in their Endurance Series. These are great rods for cranking. I think they are the perfect balance of sensitivity and perfect action. I own their 7'5" MH. It's some purpose is deep cranking, and it does one hell of a job.
  19. What are you most looking forward to from ICAST? I personally was surprised by the "aftermarket" carbon fiber reel handles and Eva knobs from Abu Garcia. This is a great way to purchase an entry level reel, like a Revo S, and take the weight down. I just wonder how much they cost....
  20. I like them. Though, one of them is a little "grindy" after five months use..... They can cast a 1/4 oz bait further than my Gen2 premiers could, and are more comfortable to palm (hence my switch). I'm gonna buy a Tournment Pro, then a Gen3 STX, and compare. Let performance be the dictator......
  21. I sold all my REVOS last year, bought lews tournaments... Then Abu releases the Gen3 REVOS....... then lews launches the BB1............ I'll never win this battle......
  22. Mira not a Gander Exculsive!!!! another site has them. It's a new color. Looks wonderful! I'm a fan of their new Redear pattern, but my all time favorite is Albino. Watermelon red looks great, too.
  23. Oh, I almost forgot: Candlewood Lake in CT has giant bass. I fished a late April tourny a few years back. A guy weighed in a 9lber. Also, don't forget Champlain in May and June.
  24. Potomac River, Upper Chesapeake Bay in April or mid May. Someone recently weighed in a largie over 10lbs in a BFL, I believe. I saw pics. I live in SE Pa, and read a report of a nearby lake where the F&G Commission boom shocked two over 12, and dozens between 5 and 9lbs.
  25. If youre visiting the philly area, talk to FLW Pro Pete Glusek. He can take you out. Great guy!
