  1. Great! Thanks!
  2. Watching some of those shows makes me think I could get my own WFN show. Some of the personalities make me think I could as well...
  3. I am considering building a rod or two, just to try it. I love my powells, but I just want to build ONE! ANyway, I have a few questions: -Any experience with MHX (mud hole) blanks? Any good? -What TOOLS (not rod materials) do I need? -What kind of investment am I looking at here? Let me know. Thanks!
  4. Sounds like you put pressure on the thumb bar. It happens. You need to watch where your thumb is!
  5. I am looking around at reels on BPS's website and I see the JM Carbonlite baitcasting reels. The old Golden ones have a little cult following, but I just have not heard anything about the new ones. The *NEW* ones have been out for a little while, and are matte black with some gold trim. The specs look great on paper: Weighs just 5.9 ounces One-piece machined aircraft-grade frame Duralumin gears and shaft V-grooved, ported, machined Duralumin spool 9 stainless steel, double shielded ball bearings and a powerlock anti reverse bearing Dual Braking System™ Titanium nitride-coated line guide Carbon fiber Recurve handle Drag system with six alternating carbon fiber and stainless washers I'm looking for anyone with experience with the reel. I want a lefty in 6.4:1. Anyone every use it? Looks comprable to my Lews Tournament Pro...
  6. My personal frog rod is a Powell Endurance 714 CEF. Its 7'1" Heavy entra fast action. It has the slightest bit of play in the tip, perfect for frogging. Its also very sensitive (not that that really matters) and is super lightweight (which REALLY matters). They retail for $170, but The Fish Ranger has them for $109, free shipping right now!!!!!!
  7. This is out of shear curiousity. I own a few Revo STXs and one Lews Tour Pro, both reels have both Centrifugal and MAgnetic brakes. Now, when I was younger, I used to keep about three pins (out of six) engaged and three locked down. At the same time, I would turn my magnets all the way off. However, this spring, I was cast much farther, into wind, leaving only one pin on (five off) and using my magnetic brakes. It begs the question: if you could choose any reel, but with only ONE brake system: mags or cents. Take your pick and justify your answer.
  8. No problem, brother. Good luck out there!
  9. I use a few little known brands out here in NJ and Pa: B&L Baits in NJ, Wacky Worm in Pa, RC Tackle, Brovarney Baits both in Wisconsin. I also tie my own jigs for that "100% custom" feel.
  10. What lake is that? It looks familiar....
  11. I know.... I'm just stubborn. A swim jig is a swim jig, and a flipping jig is a flipping jig. It's just me.
  12. You need to go talk to Mike and George at Susquahanna fishing tackle. They're located 1226 Harrisburg Pike in lancaster. They are the local pros and am great guys to deal with. Not to mention they have the best tackle shop in the mid Atlantic area. If you have a boat, you're an hour away from the Upper Cheasapeake Bay (aka Susquahanna Flats, aka "The Flats"). That place is friggin awesome. Huge bass, but tidal, and inherently tricky. Seriously, stop by SFT. They'll help you out.
  13. I typically do better when I don't pre fish. Then I fish in the moment, which is what you need to do. However, if I were to practice, I'd read the weights if previous tournaments to see what you'll NEED to find to win. Then, just check water temp. Are they spawning? Post spawn? I'd concentrate around spawning areas. If you can't find them on beds, but you see old beds, you can bet the males are probably guarding fry shallow. Females will start biting in the deep water or on points adjacent to the spawning flats. Look for bluegill and sunfish beds. Post spawn for bass is full spawn for bluegills, and bass will hunt bluegill nestin grounds. Great topwater time! Good luck!
  14. I lived in Wisconsin from 2010-2012 and belonged to a club out there. It was the first time I had seen a swimjig in action, and boy I got my butt handed to be with it. So, I decided to learn how to use it. Brovarney is locally own out there for being one of the best. And it is a great performer. It kid of ticks me off when people try to use a swim jig for more than one technique, like flipping and swimming. Those two techniques call for two different jigs. Or when people use too heavy a swimjig (over 3/8oz). Or when people use big-name "swim jigs" like Strike King or BooYah. They have no idea what a real swimjig is or what it does. It's a VERY misunderstood technique.
  15. I am looking for inspiration. I have a few white swimjig heads lying around and I want to tie some crappie, herring, and/or white perch patterns. Post some photos of your crappie patterns here so I can look at them!!! Thanks!
  16. 5-9lbs of drag? That's it?!?! If you advertise 12lbs, I expect at least 10.5. Coupled with the low line capacity, I can't see spending the extra money...
  17. Brovarney 1/4oz swim jig, Gil color, zoom fat Albert grub in cotton candy.
  18. It seems like the MGX is build for finesse fishing, but what are its limits? It has only 12lbs of drag and I'm not sure about the brakes on it. How would this reel do for the following techniques: -Heavy Jigs -Spinnerbaits -Flip/punch I'm just wondering. Thanks!
  19. You Really have to crank that drag star down to get the full effect. Mine are fine, but I did like the old drag better.
  20. I don't. I get a bite, I set the hook immediately. I don't buy that whole "wait for them to swallow" thing. You don't do that with other topwaters. You have to understand the anatomy of a bite: when a bass takes a bait or prey initially, they engulf it. They don't "nip" at a frog; any misses are user error. Don't get me wrong, I do miss bass, we all do. But I have a very high strike to land ratio. Don't believe me? Ask Dean Rojas. He feels the same way. I also fish with Clackerbuzz on this forum. He'a a frogger too.
  21. I have a 15' Aluminum rowboat with three small cracks in the hull. It has front and back decks, and I cannot fix them from inside the boat. I tried patching them using Aluminum puddy (it hardens to aluminum). The leaking has significantly slowed, but its still leaking. How can I patch the cracks from unde the boat? Please dont direct me to tin boats *. I'm asking here. Can I use flex seal???
  22. I hate Trokars. I started to make my own flipping hooks out of VMC trailer hooks or black nickle Siwash hooks. I take a carpender's staple, cut in half and bent to an obtuse angle, attach it to the under side of the hook stank with fly tieing thread, and secure with some JB weld, as well as JB Weld the eve of the hook. Its an awesome keeper, not to mention the hook itself is thicker and stronger than most flipping hooks, as just as sharp. To answer your question....... 4/0.
  23. How about $20 PayPal gift, I'll cover shipping. I'll also toss in a bunch of rattle bands I have no use for. Deal?
  24. I have a naked bait skirt tool I'll sell you. It's a pretty awesome little deal if you use rubber skirt bands.
