  1. I have something to add to this conversation..... LEWS! That is all.....
  2. NOT the same action. I unless you're using an elaztech plastic or other floating worm, the bait trailing a carolina rig is dragging behind the rig on the bottom. Its simple physics. It doesn't "float up" above the weight; thats nonsense. A drop shot bait is suspended off the bottom, and can be wiggled in place indefinately. I prefer the drop shot, and I often drag it like a carolina rig. However a carolina rig is better for covering deep water quickly. Both excel at feeling bottom composition. As for your question: it depends. if the fish are scattered across a 15ft flat, I'd toss the c-rig. however, if those fish are relating to vertical structure, or if they're in a specific area, drop 'em. My $.02.
  3. My local Bass Pro had the HB 798ci hd combos for $499. Go there and look!!!!!!
  4. Anyone own a pair of sealskins? They seem like the best waterproof dexterous gloves out there. Any opinions or alternatives?
  5. You can always haggle! Hell that's half the fun! I usually go the last day (Sunday), take the tour, make notes of what I want. Then, the last hour of the show, I go around and make offers. Win some, lose some. But I have got some killer deals before.
  6. I want you to know that I have a big m crank bait ties on RIGHT NOW! And the lake is frozen....
  7. I've seen this! I was thinking maybe line guides? Windshield? Gloves? Hats? Rain gear? I don't know. I'm just tossing ideas out there.
  8. Very cool! I like the sled head idea. It makes sense, too. If a bass is looking up for prey, and it sees the detail of the swimbait as it moves below the surface, they should knock the snot out of it!
  9. Can you post a picture? I'd love to see it.
  10. Maybe the forum sponsor, Valley Sports? They support us, we should support them. Plus, Ron is a class act.
  11. Did it have that action before the bb's? Thats sweet.
  12. My local club, along with probably a dozen others, always fish the Flats. Judging from the catches, I never would have known the bass had an issue. Where did you find that out?
  13. What bait is that?
  14. You can do that on Excel very easily. You can autosum ino a "total" column. As you enter weights, it will automatically update.
  15. Don't count out those California swimbait guys!!!!! That lake has some giant bass in it, and you only need five bites a day. It would surprise me to see a guy like Skeet Reese, Fred Rombanis, or the like catch HUGE bags on spawn-cove points. The conditions should be right for it, providing the water is clear.
  16. Ron is great to do business with, and that's a stellar price!!!!!
  17. They look great, but are they worth the money? Anyone use them?
  18. I think they break ground this year, probably not until 2015.
  19. Duckett Ghost and Lews Speed Spool.
  20. You know, I've looked at those hooks, but they just seem a little weak... I'm a big fan of owner, I just dont think they make a better flipping hook than gammy....
  21. Wait, what? You're going to flip with a 90* jig hook? This: http://www.ownerhooks.com/jighooks.htm I dont think you want to do that. That bend and eye will create a block for your hook point. Look at this: This hook design is specific to flipping, and is best used with a snell knot: http://www.gamakatsu.com/fishing-hooks.php?pid=1048 Why tie a snell knot? Watch this (1:45): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUdL0wvvC3Q I personally dont use EWG hooks at all anymore. For bottom-dragging worming, I use 4/0 and 5/0 straight shank hooks.... and I snell it. Hell, I even snell my drop-shot! and I miss VERY few hooksets. I know some guys love EWG hooks. Go buy some and experiement. But as SOON as you miss a hookset with the EWG hooks (and you will), snell a straight shank on...
  22. I had the same problem when I first started fishing. "Are there shad in here? Crawfish?" Within the last couple of years, I realized that where I live (Southeast PA) shad and herring are VERY RARE to come by. In the Spring, trout are stocked and that can be a forage spieces for a small window..... but the MOST COMMON DENOMINATOR in all bodies of water is BLUEGILL. Fishing for shallow largies? Bluegill. Deep Smallmouth? Yellow Perch. In the Chesapeake, White Perch are everywhere, so chrome is a great color. Look in the water for panfish. When you see something, match it! Good luck!
  23. They're awesome. No weighing fish twice, no balance beam necessary. Makes culling super fast!
  24. Straight shank hook (Gammy/Trokar) ties with a snell knot. Very high hook to land ratio.
  25. Let the sun beat down on the shallow rocks for a while. Start fishing at noon or so.
