  1. Use do fish there often in April. It's a great lake.
  2. Torture? Try fishing Erie with a 25mph winds.... then talk to me about torture..... Lol, all kidding aside, that can be super tough. My best lockjaw bass baits are a swim jig or a trick work rigged Texas style with a nail weight inserted into the center. Or, try a wacky jighead and a 6" finesse worm. Good luck!
  3. You need to check out Rod Warrior USA neoprene covers. They're awesome, and offer more padding. Owners name is Pete, and he can do custom lengths. Check them out!
  4. Those are two tough lakes. But they're in there. I think they fish really deep. My best largies in Nock come out of 30ft.
  5. Yeah, me too. That's why I wrote this. Their products are getting better, and that makes me happy. Great company.
  6. Not sure about lefty. I hope for a lefty 7.3 and 6.5, as I reel lefty as well.
  7. I was at Susquehanna Fishing Tackle in Columbia, Pa yesterday for their Bassfest event. I was walking past the Ardent booth when something caught my eye. I started talking to Tom from Ardent and he introduced me to the Apex Grand. I want to tell all of you about it because I was actually really impressed with this reel. Now, before I continue, lets clear the air about something: Ardent's reputation hit a bump two years ago when they moved their manufacturing from the US to China. Many anglers expressed concerns about the potential for quality to slip, as China's manufacturing reputation is notorious. But then I tried to think of a reel brand that ISN'T manufactured in Asia and I couldn't think of one. And lets me honest, it's very difficult to build an affordable, quality reel in the US with the cost of labor here. So, keeping an open mind, lets move forward. From the moment I picked it up, I was impressed. The first thing I noticed, which I feel doesn't get talked about as much as it should, is the sideplate. This reel is almost perfectly flat on the palming sideplate, and seems to snuggle up right against my palm. No bulges, no unnatural shapes... flat. It reminded me of the shape and overall profile of the Lews Tournament Pro, but almost an ounce lighter in favor of the Grand. At only 5.9oz, its the lightest reel I ever picked up. Not only is it lightweight, but butter smooth. Testing the free spool, I pressed the thumb bar and spun the spool. The spool spun for a long time, and felt really smooth and solid. The reel handle is bent carbon fiber, and kept with the "smooth" theme as I cranked on it. It feels very solidly built, as solid as some of the high end Lews and Abu offerings that I have experience with. The frame is aluminum, which will prevent flexing and misalignment. I was surprised to find a dual cast control system, as the other Apex models only have magnetic brakes. It contains *** ball bearings and Ardent's Strike-Saver drag. The model I handled was a Right Handed 7.3:1. I'm not sure if there will be left handed models or other gear ratios. I wanted to tell all of you about this reel because I thought this reel is a great value at $199.99, and I will definitely be giving it a try. Do yourself some justice, and pick one up and throw a few casts. I think you'll be happy you did. Tight lines!
  8. I live down that way. You might consider trout fishing in the Neshaminy. I usually trout fish this time of year with tiny Jerkbaits, like a size 4 x-rap. You can try the delaware, but it's always tough. The chesapeake bay is always good, if you have a boat.
  9. Bluegill are EVERYWHERE. Wanna find them? Just drop an earthworm on a hook over the boat. I fish lakes that are panfish forage lakes here in Pa. Bluegill hang out the same places that bass do. Find bluegill, find bass and vice versa.
  10. I have a 91/30 sniper with the PU scope. Awesome rifle. Shoots 203gr Brown Bear SP 1 moa. Not bad for a 73 year old rifle.
  11. Depends on the season. Prespawn/spawn, swim jig or jerkbait, post spawn, swim jig, deep crank, jig, dropshot. Summer: reaction baits.
  12. They were designed for the shallow, weedy Mississippi river. Great over/in/around grass. I throw bluegill patterns mostly with a single tail grub. Start tossing it when they first move shallow during prepawn, about 55*F Good luck!
  13. I've walked it's shores and that's it. Beautiful lake. Tons of grass and baitfish. Enjoy!
  14. You're buying confidence. That said, I use lucky craft and mega bass Jerkbaits in clear water, because that's the only time I can think of where a bass has the chance to stare down a bait.
  15. I don't think it's fair to assume that someone isn't at least as knowledgeable as someone else on a topic/industry strictly because person A is younger than the elder. It's equally unfair to assume that because someone is older, they have a better understanding of anything they are mutually interested in. By that logic, people like Brandon Palaniuk and Jacob Wheeler should know little compared to anyone older who fishes, both of whom are younger than me. This isn't a cover letter, nor am I looking to impress anyone; just looking for career advice. One day, all those old timers will be gone. Someone has to take over for them, right?
  16. Good morning, everyone! I'm going to throw a different topic out there today: I would like to reach out to our community for advice or guidance on becoming a sales rep for a tackle manufacturer. I have been a Foodservice sales rep in the Mid Atlantic for the last five years, and have been successful. However, like all of you, my passion is fishing. I can't get enough, as many of you can't. I'd like to combine my experience and knowledge of sales with my passion for tackle. I'm really a lure nerd, but I have a good knowledge of reels, line, and terminal tackle from a lifetime of experience. I also have some good relationships with some local tackle stores from being on a few prostaffs, but that's probably small compared to the general scope of the position I seek. So, where do I start? I have searched on fishing industry jobs * to no avail. I'm on Linkdin, facebook looking. Trade shows are coming up, so I'll probably be introducing myself around to a few companies. Does anyone have any advice, or know of any companies looking for sales reps? I second guessed posting this here, but the worst that can happen is no one replies! Thanks, and tight lines!
  17. I live near the Hamburg, Pa store and its HUGE, and on par with the BPS in Harrisburg, Pa. Now, the Christiana, DE Cabela's, which just opened up, is tiny, like a bigger Gander Mountain.
  18. Winning a boat would mean no boat payment. Insirance, taxes, has, maintainable, sure, I can afford those if I didn't have to shell out another $400-700 a month for a boat payment. Look, this is just a curiosity question. I doubt I'll ever actually win a bass boat.
  19. I'd love to own one, but can't afford a boat payment... it just got me thinking about ways to win a bass boat. I live in the greater Philadelphia area, and would love to find some tournaments that offer bass boats as prizes, or grand prize. Anyone know of anything in my area, or not too far?
  20. I'm meeting my buddy from Idaho on Clear Lake the weekend of April 3rd. We've never been, and haven't fished together in five or six years. He pulling his Stratos down and were heading out. Neither of us have been there before, so I'm looking for some helpful hints, areas to try, baits, etc. according to my research, everyone says "swim baits and prespawn". But I'd like more specifics. Anyone, please lend a brother a hand. Thanks!
  21. They're still there. Bass don't need grass to survive. They're hard cover relaters now, particularly wood. I'm speaking of the tidal section of course. I fish big current breaks above Trenton. Bridges, points. There are some good grass beds around pike county.
  22. Oh yea there are! I fish for largemouth in the tidal delaware, below Trenton. And I grew up fishing Pine County, Pa for smallmouth. It's still a healthy fishery. Great smallmouth water.
  23. I live in Southeast PA. Sorry bud! Good luck!
  24. You may also want to look at River2Sea's Crawler crankbait. TW has them on sale for around $2.75 right now.
  25. There is a company called Quickbaits that makes great plastics, some of which have rattles poured into them. Try some out! I love 'em.
