  1. I throw spinnerbaits with 4600's sometimes. Good reels, as long as you aren't trying to cast tiny light lures. I find it easy to palm, even though they do sit higher on the rod.
  2. popper, buzzbait (not the favorite one here), spook or sammy, if I can't get bit with one of those, I'll try a wakebait. If I still can't get anything going, I'm tying on some plastic, a spinnerbait and a crank. But it really depends on the cues from the fish.
  3. I can't speak for anyone else, but I often use lures in different ways than the manufacturer intends, or folks espouse on on the Interweb, and the reason is because it works for me. I would think the same may apply to others. Imagine what would happen if one guy decided to start casting an umbrella, or downsizing a twirling musky lure....
  4. LOL. I hope those are Sabretts or Nathan's (Papaya King are ok too) preferably skinned ones. No Ball Parks or other bush league franks. I like mine with onions and mustard (its a NYC thing). Dirty water dogs! NYC in the house! NYC PB is 6, they're in there, but on does need to get creative. I might have to hit the Mattawoman with a half smoke...
  5. How hasn't that been renamed Foles' lake yet?....
  6. Got my share of trout in the Catskills. They are smart and wiley and all that... Chum with ants or crickets and they get dumb in a hurry. "mojo rigging" (cause bass guys need a name for everything) a #5 or #7 original rapala (and casting upstream) usually caught size. Spinners will catch trout for sure, but there are so many other lures that will. small crankbaits are my favorite.
  7. Wait, so that means that as they get older and bigger there are fewer of them? Could this be why we catch fewer of them? No that's just silly talk, they must get smarter (with all that schooling)...
  8. Oh good, you might know, What does "I felt a little like a dying clown with a streak of rin tin tin" mean?
  9. without knowing the river, conditions and access, it's hard to say. I'd bring a few of your favorite plastics and hard baits.
  10. I like a smaller hook than most on plastics, but a 1/0 on a 5 inch senko is way too small. Will you catch some fish with it, yeah, but you'll miss some too. I'd bend the point up a tad if it's all I had.
  11. It's like horses, don't put them away wet. If it's in and out of the water, I'll just fish it hard for the rest of the day, Then open it up, wipe it dry, and then leave it apart until dry, and then a quick lube, and back to work. If it is underwater for a prolonged period, I'll usually do the same, but leave it apart and take it out of the rotation till the off season. The advantage of using the same reel for everything is that there are about 20 others ready to go.
  12. Rods, no brand preference, I'm all over the place. Reels, same one with different gear ratios.
  13. Some colors work better than others under certain conditions, but I'm certain I could catch on any color if need be. I keep the color thing simple, but I'm color blind so it's easier. I don't think there is a color I own or have used that I haven't caught on.
  14. We don't need no lubrication, We don't need no cast control, No dark jig trailers in the bass room, Teacher leave them fish alone, Hey, teacher, leave them fish alone.... "How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat".... IBTL
  15. That is an understandable sentiment. The fishery and infrastructure that you frequented and enjoyed have taken a turn to the worse, to the point where you are looking elsewhere. Once the mourning period is over, try to look at the big picture. Bodies of water go through these sort of changes all the time. Sometimes it's a catastrophic sudden event, and sometimes it's a steady slow decline. In either case, it is what it is. Look back and be thankful for all the good outings, and go and look for the next favorite hole. I'm sure once you put in your time at the new lake, you'll be all good. I have a couple of local spots that aren't nearly as good as they were, but also a couple that are on fire too.
  16. This^. I'm a bike mechanic and hobby woodworker, so I really preach the tool analogy.
  17. LMAO! No wonder my Paca craws and rage toads aren't working. Thanks for the heads up, see you in 2022....
  18. Yeah, that "special something" is inside each individual. Watching videos or even asking the person and listening to the answer for hours on end won't cause osmosis to infuse one with it. It isn't as obvious with competition where there is no clearly apparent physical or psychological advantages, but they are there none the less. I could ask Lebron how to take off from the baseline, put a hip on the D without loosing balance and dunk over the guy coming over the weak side, and watch all his YT videos, and I still couldn't even reach the net with a step stool. Same applies to fishing, and everything else.
  19. Double blind experiments consistently show up to a 30% placebo effect. Additionally there is a solid confirmation bias towards items that cost more $, and it's not a case of attempting to deceive oneself. If you fish 2 identical lines, and one costs more than the other you will prefer the most expensive one and actually perceive a difference, even though one doesn't exist, and again additionally, there is the mob mentality (see WP threads) and finally the "I own it, so I defend it" syndrome, just talk to any Shimano fanboy. Specifically to the fluoro leader question, I find no reason to use it when LMB fishing, I haven't found them to be line shy at all, and I haven't found fluoro to provide any significant abrasion resistance over a decent stiff mono. As far as leader or no leader, there I will use one when abrasion resistance is an issue or when fishing treble hook lures or vertical jigging, or drop shotting and the like. YMMV, (but it won't).
  20. Sounds fishy, even the cheapest of bearings won't rust in a year in fresh water use.
  21. LOL "Early to bed, early to rise, Fish like crazy, And tell big lies". "Roses are red, violets are blue, I caught a 10 pounder, And so can you". "Hickory dickory, dock, If you think I'm lying, You can kiss my...... clock....
  22. close enough to call 4. The angles of the photographs make that fish seem smaller than it is, or 12....
  23. Great, now I can't get the picture of an 11 lb LMB in a cheerleader outfit in the back of my '72 Chevy Vega... I fish mostly in the northeast and mid atlantic, and I've been fortunate enough to catch a few DD bass. I find right about 8 lbs, I get excited , the exact weight I'm not to concerned with.
  24. The IGFA blue marlin 12 lb line class (which tests lower than most 10 lb lines) record is almost 400 lbs, and the 8 lb one is well over 300.
  25. Hard as nails is the standard. I use it to finish feathered trebles and small jigs I tie also, and it holds up well. Looking at your pictures, There is already a lot of high build finish on there, I'd leave it or put just a tiny amount on there. The finish "should" end at the thread and blank and not climb up or fill in the area between the ring/foot and blank, but you do see this a lot particularly with the new micro and mini single foot guides (which suck by the way). You know there is no sixth sense, it's just misinterpreted memories causing perceived precognition....
