  1. And another poor guy (or gal) working retail gets fired before the Holidays... That's not a sale, that is an erroneous pricing, or an unauthorized discount.
  2. X2. I don't own any GLXs or NRXs, but have fished with both, and prefer the GLX, specially the older ones.
  3. We made a stop at a picturesque stream in Nicaragua a while back. Not a soul in sight, and just the sound of the water on the rocks, and some birds and insects. Amazing enough experience, when about 20 minutes later we see someone heading towards us in the middle of the knee high water. As he got closer, it became obvious that he was using a cast net. Now I'm no slouch with the cast net, and we fish with some guys who are really, really good with them, but as I watched this man who could have been out of central casting, wearing all white, wicker basket at his side, brimmed straw hat, and sun leathered skin, it became obvious that what he was doing was as much art as fishing for crayfish. His precise, exact, uniform casts were smooth and effortless and resulted in a perfect O landing in front of him every time. I watched him as he made a cast, put his catch in the basket, took 6 steps forward and repeated the process. To this day I can close my eyes and picture the scene. Oh, and they have crayfish the size of small lobsters in Central America.
  4. Rods yes, reels no. Imagine how good KVD would be with a decent reel...
  5. Remove all the hardware, and soak overnight in laundry detergent and Dawn mixture, not too concentrated. You'll have to rig something to keep them submerged, cause most float. rinse off and go over the remaining gunk with stiff toothbrush and the same mixture (don't get in your eye). Some will loose some or all of the paint, no big deal, the natural plastic, often resembling bone is a great color. For the ones that retain their color, buff out with brown paper bag, and polish with olive oil. I dive, so I get a lot of these things. Often, you can find a whole bunch on a snag made worse by braid.
  6. Well, if we're allowed to go to the back of the movie rental store, how about The Happy Hooker...
  7. Clueless, or maybe faceoff...
  8. I'd love to power drop shot one in watermelon candy up in the St Lawrence, and see what happens. It's pretty ugly though...
  9. FIFY Skynyrd....
  10. X2. If your gear is functional, it's not the limiting factor. Only you can answer if it works or not. Less reading more fishing is the answer.
  11. The SK 3/16 spinnerbaits (they make several different ones) work well for "dinky pond bass" and are larger than the mini/micro finnesse ones, and the hook while not super thin, will work fine. I wrap some solder around the hook shaft on them when I want a compact look and more weight. I fish them on 12-15 lb mono, and have no problem with hook sets with a medium stick. Good bait, It's the only War Eagle I like.
  12. Yes, most rods are labeled fast or x Fast, but the actual actions vary from that to moderate, so don't just go by the label or intended use. Like you, I like a softer more moderate rod than most for several applications. I thread line on any rod I'm considering and actually bend it as I would while fishing. Older or mid level rods will often be "less fast" than labeled.
  13. Yes, but that's just the basics. Every successful competitor (in any sport) is going to be competent, prepared and experienced. Success often comes down to one or a few moments or actions in the heat of battle. Like they say there are many ways to skin a cat. If you think all your jerkbaits need to face the same way in the box for you to be successful, then they do. On the other hand, if you show up with a DSG bag full of baits with the receipt still in it, and proceed to crush the competition (seen it) then that's what works for you.
  14. Green Label was my Scotch until they took it way. The new one isn't the same, and BL is too rich for my blood.
  15. Whole weekends anyway...
  16. And BPS, and Cabelas, and DSG, and Browning, and a bunch of others. Flip em over and look for the made in Korea on the reel foot. If it has a made in China sticker instead, it's a later version. I have plastic DSG sideplates that fit on the all metal Pinnacles for winter use. They made a Crown Royal® limited version, which is ironic cause I use the pouches as reel bags when I travel. Next, we'll cover the differences between Bourbon and Canadian whiskey...
  17. Look, a quick peak at the lay of the land will show that Shimano is the apex predator, which makes it tough for others to crest the market. Much like Sony did to Zenith, it's difficult to summit the strength to climb the market, and most find it an uphill battle...
  18. Was playing with them in store a few weeks ago. Seemed like good sticks, but they vary by .3 to .5 oz? IMPOSSIBLE! I read somewhere online that no production rods vary by more than 3 gms,
  19. This actually makes a lot of sense, but I doubt most folks are likely to want to expose (ha) themselves to the rigors and discomforts required to trigger these adaptations. I have been commercial fishing the ocean in the winter all my life, and my hands don't "feel" cold. I fish without gloves, and even though my hands get quite cold, sometimes to the point where it affects motion, it doesn't bother me. My feet on the other hand (ha again) always "feel" cold, though often they aren't. gloves with enough dexterity and chem warmers in pockets are what seems to work for most. I use plastic or graphite framed reels though, cause it makes a difference. If you are recreational fishing, it's for fun, so if you are going to be so cold, it's no fun, what's the point?
  20. Is that the fat one or the annoying one?
  21. Am I the only one that sees the angry bird?
  22. I sell more high end BMX bikes to 9-14 year olds than many other segments, and since most just want what they want and have no idea (or don't care) about the value of a dollar is, they just plunck it down. The look on parents' faces when they find out how much that rear wheel Johnny wants for Xmas is just priceless...
