I got nothing for you, I can't get a bite on an underspin to save my life. If I was in a similar situation, my OCD would have me separating those two lures and trying to see which one is actually being bit or whether it's actually the combination of the two, but again, I'm not the one to ask on this one.

I don't know that you can "dial in" any one type of fishing in one year. I've been at this for almost a half a century, and I'm still adjusting the rabbit ears, and turning the broken knob with small vise grips.... Where did I put the clicker?...

Not sure, I'll go look and let you know. It's pretty old and not a high end stick. I've tried a lot of other things, and haven't found anything I like better. A little chilly in the garage. I don't think it's made anymore. I bought it in a VA Beach DSG, I want to say like sometime in 2002-2003 or so. Quest LS-7, C701MH70. It's labeled IM7, and rated for 10-20 lb line and 1/4-1 oz, but I think 3/8 is the lower end on it in reality. I bought it to fish in Norfolk, and I've landed some cobia and striped bass on it. It became my frog rod by accident, but it just works for that.

It really depends on the fish. Some are white flaky and solid and hold together well when fried. In this case the coating is really to get that golden brown and to add the desired flavors, so less is more. With softer more delicate fish, a heavier or wet batter is better to get the desired results and keep everything together. Google beer batter for the latter and Peruvian jalea for the former. I have a bunch of cod and some halibut in the freezer, and fresh sea bass and tog, so I'm a happy camper right now. Completely agree with the oil temp thing, make or brake right there.

Really? I've caught LMB on cut bait, squid, and bacon just for S&Gs. LMB guys have some misconceptions about their beloved. They are fish, like all the others. But yes, catfish chase lures all the time. The blues are paving the potomac and its tribs right now, and eating everything in sight (or is it scent?)
