  1. A lot of guys reach for the tissues and lotion when talking about it. For me, it's just alright and nothing special. Now where's my BG and happy sock?...
  2. Don't miss the tree for the forest, sticking to one or few lures and throwing them with abandon with no regard for their safety is the lesson here. Jigs are great, but when they don't want them, they really don't want them, of course when they do, It's game on. Good lesson learned so far, go get 'em.
  3. Kid caught one like that in a small pond too. And I know of 2 bigger out of this hell hole,...I mean state. The state record for Ohio is over 13, so a 10 is certainly doable.
  4. I love how he can change direction mid sentence.
  5. I have a couple of these. Good sticks. I'm not fond of that hump on the grip though.
  6. No, a pawl anti reverse would just have a tad of play based on the size of the teeth on the mechanism. If the handle is indeed spinning backwards, then most likely, either it's gummed up, the spring has failed, or the pawl and or teeth have worn out.
  7. Don't know the weight of that particular bait, but baits do vary quite a bit from stated weight. Ultimately the actual weight isn't as important as how the particular bait casts and it's sink rate. With experience, one can look at a bait made of lead and have a good idea of both. As an example the SK 3/16 spinnerbait is almost identical to a Booyah 5/16 one.
  8. I like the way these guys cover material and their approach to fishing in no particular order, Larry Nixon, Greg Hackney, Marty Stone, Tim Horton, Aaron Martin.
  9. I'm that guy that fishes most baits with stock hooks until they actually need changing, cause most are adequate and work fine, and the first thing I do with the Shadow Raps and Shadow Rap Shads is change those POS hooks out. Also don't hit the bill on anything harder than Jello®. I wish they wouldn't work as well as they do.
  10. To clarify, is the handle spinning forwards, or backwards?
  11. About 100 yds? How are you determining this? If it's anything close to that It should be fine. Might want to lay down some backing, and you'll probably need to if it's much less than 100yds.
  12. My first salt water reel was a Penn 77, still have the scars on the knuckles from it. Normally what you describe would be the ARB, but I think that reel might have a dog pawl AR. In either case it probably is caused by caked up lube, and a good cleaning should do the trick. Of course it could also be a part. The "handle doesn't spin when letting out a lure" sounds a bit weird though.
  13. I use the 4 carrier KK braid in 10-50 lb , no issues.
  14. That's the third most important. One is it should float, and two is if it doesn't float you should be ok with the $ sent to the bottom.
  15. You'll get the exact procedure with your motor. Make sure you follow it to the t (or is it tee), cause they will look at that if you ever need warranty work. I had a 225, and its up/down, up/down at low and med RPMs like someone mentioned above. No real way to fish while doing it.
  16. I'm pretty sure you can put a lizard on a spinnerbait as a trailer or pull a school of them on an A-rig and catch fish. As a matter of fact I used them as cod teasers one time and they worked as well as the grubs normally used. Fish don't reason.
  17. Powell inferno is under $80 at DSG right now. A couple of happy meals or ramen lunches and you're there.
  18. That's because in your mind the bass is like "Oh look! a yummy lizard" and that's not what's going on. I'm pretty sure there are no spinnerbaits or A-rigs swimming around in your lake either...
  19. Oh, I know this one. Just had the training. As long as I didn't contribute to them being drunk and they aren't incapacitated or otherwise unable to consent, I'm good to go.
  20. You're allowed to put tackle on the counter? The Admiral isn't having none of that. After all this time we've drawn the boundary lines fairly well, and on the plus side, the couch has the perfect broken in contour...
  21. Scarlet Johansen. Oh, wait, that's the stranded on an island question....
  22. In a northern state like that with a short growing season and cold winters, I'd be looking for a place with good forage and a WWD. Under 9 lbs sounds doable. I'm convinced there are DD bass swimming in more places than folk generally believe.
  23. This ^. I can tell by the birds and the thicket growth in the late winter, weather (ha) it's going to be an early or late season. We're probably going to see a lot of rain too, so that has a big effect. I don't worry about it, I just try to stay flexible and fish what's in front (ha again) of me on a given day.
  24. For what you are describing, I don't think it will make a difference. If you were deciding between a 6 and an 8 (assuming the same model or IPT) might be worth giving some thought. I like to err on the slower side. Diameter actually.
