  1. I always put on my mood ring and power crystal before feeding my pet rock, and falling asleep to my lava lamp, I just wish my bead curtain wasn't so noisy and the roof on the VW bus didn't leak. Where did I put my easy wider?.....
  2. 40º is the unofficial temp for me to do something other than LMB fishing. Sure I can bundle up and fish hard and pick up a few, and every so often even have a memorable day if I put the time in, but the ROI just isn't there.
  3. WTS: Jar of #11 Uncle Josh pork rind, the lid has just a little rust on it and I think there are 3, maybe 4 baits left, not sure cause the liquid has turned a color I can't see through and if I open it it smells up the whole house. $290 plus shipping and you pick up the Paypal fees, might consider trade for GLX in mint condition. No low ballers or tire kickers.
  4. That's how I mostly do it. Guys get mad at me cause they think I'm punking them when I say "I dunno, like this". I guess I need a spreadsheet...
  5. Absolutely, and it's not just fishing gear. Most used sporting goods items are worth pennies on the dollar used. The market will find it's level. That being said, there are certain items that maintain their value (and in some cases even appreciate) due to elevated demand based on several factors. Just take a look at the items offered for sale here, "price drop, new price drop, bump, last price drop,... I guess I'll keep it". Now the pork rind on the other hand...
  6. I would, but I've never cared much for convention or cared what folks think. I put pink handlebar tape on my bike for breast cancer. A reel is a reel. I can see how some guys would feel insecure or otherwise wouldn't want to do it.
  7. Those look great, and it's blade time to boot.
  8. I have not found LMB to be line shy regardless of water clarity. I'm sure you will catch if you fish straight bright braid. If you want, you can hit it with a green or black sharpie if you think it might help.
  9. I meant on a regular basis, not possibly or purposely targeting. You can land a lot more fish on light tackle than what one would think. In the salt it's just part of the game.
  10. If it was me, I'd go with 12 lb mono or 15 lb braid with a 15 lb mono leader, Unless you are running into wipers and cats that run over 20 lbs, a tight drag and good knots should have those fish by your side with minimal line going out. If it's going to be mostly small walleyes, somewhat lighter tackle would be my choice.
  11. 1) Why? Is there something wrong with it? b) Only one way to find out. The best way to end up with a bunch of tackle that you don't use is to buy something because a bunch of guys on an InterWeb® site said it was a good idea. A better plan, specially if one already has a rod or 2 is to go fishing with that and see how well (or not) it does with a given lure. As with any other tool out there, when you use your rods, reels, lines and lures ask yourself "what if anything do I wish was different about it, that would make my fishing better or more efficient in some way". and make the changes (wether it involves purchases or not) in that direction.
  12. They flutter. We use spoons up to 6 oz for striped bass, and up to 24 oz for cod, and they flutter. You want to match the size and weight to the depth and current. I know it sounds counter intuitive, but heavier mono works best for this, you want a slight belly on the drop, and the resistance aids with the action. Now if you want to use a smaller spoon deep, braid with a leader works well.
  13. The original trap isn't one of my favorite lipless CBs, but there is a time and a place for different ones, and when they want a quick sinking loud one, it's hard to beat. Color wise, I like something mostly red, something that matches forage, something fire tigerish, and chrome with a blue or black back, add something with gold, and that should cover you most anywhere you go. I like a rip and drop or yoyo retrieve best, but It's really a matter of getting it in front of the fish, so pretty much any retrieve is in play. It's a great search bait and reaction bait that works well most of the year, so I always have some with me.
  14. Haven't seen anything like that since I was stuck in Bahrain for a week. ps: shawarmas are delicious....
  15. Almost without exception, I've liked Q sticks I've tried, and almost without exception I've disliked Q reels I've tried. YMMV.
  16. Someone give this man a key to the executive lounge, make sure to collect his wrong handed reels.... The follow through of a cast places the rod in the opposite hand in one fluid continuous motion. For the longest time I couldn't figure out why my BC rods with cork foregrips were getting pitted in the same spot just above the reel, turns out it was my left index finger nail landing in the same exact spot every time. Now I wrap a little painters tape or get a manicure.
  17. Yeah, everything except WWDs are solid here right now, and probably will be for a week or more. Stone crab claws and grilled Mahi sandwiches are sounding really good right now, like the commercial says, "close to perfect, far from normal". We were also talking about maybe spending a couple of weeks between Pensacola and New Orleans, just bumming around and basking a bit.
  18. What's the word I'm looking for, oh yeah, Wrong. Bigger fish are faster than smaller fish (this applies to most other animals as well). Smaller fish appear faster because they accelerate faster and can be more nimble.
  19. Yeah, throw a new tip on that thing and put it through the paces. Or send it to me, I'm carbon fiber disposal certified.
  20. Better protected from mayhem....
  21. So the fat guy with the hearing aid and bifocals is more keenly aware of his surroundings than the 8 year old bouncing off the walls because he's 5 times his size?
  22. Dead serious. Square bills get a faster, stouter, shorter rod, something like I fish medium sized plastics or larger JBs, and 15-20 lb mono, certainly nothing resembling a cranking stick. A spongy rod around wood cover and certainly grass is just a headache waiting to happen with a square bill. Cranking on the other hand, longer softer rod with a slower reel and 8-12 lb mono. I have 2 cranking rods, one for mid sized mid running baits, and another beefier stick for larger, deeper diving cranks. Anyone who thinks it's a good idea to fish square bills and CBs on the same rod, hasn't fished both much, or is doing something different with them in a niche situation.
  23. Yes, but this assumes that there isn't an ample supply of smaller fish and other tid bits for smaller fish to eat, and usually this isn't the case.
  24. The odds of a specific fish reaching maturity, not to mention trophy or record size is indeed daunting. However given enough recruitment, the odds of non specific individuals in a population reaching these same sizes, while still long, aren't nearly as unlikely. Kind of like the odds of you winning the Power Ball, versus "someone" winning the Power Ball.
