  1. My name is Brian and I too have an addiction like all of you! I'm also new to the forum. Here's my finally downsized bass collection of reels. No need to name the reels, everyone probably knows what each are. I will say I'm a hardcore shimano and daiwa fan but my quantums get the most love from me. Tour mg is my new favorite! Also for anyone who hasn't tried out a hammer rod, do yourself a favor and get one. Lighter and more sensitive than my glx rods. These will be replacing all my rods soon.

  2. Well gang, it looks like we had another successful Fishmas Exchange this year. It was wonderful seeing everyone gifts. The most creative gift award would have to go to Beckie C. A blanket and Pumpkin bread. What a combo. I hope everyone has a happy new year. FD

  3. Started looking around the house for a place to practice pitching. I know if I brake something I will never hear the end of it. Tried to fish on Monday and gave up three hours in almost frozen. Temps in the twenties my southern blood has me hiding inside.

  4. Y'all ever notice similarities between the two? Both have a home, deer bed down in the same area, bass hide in cover in the same area. Both have kitchens & dining rooms, both have numerous feeding areas. Both follow the terrain (structure) to & from feeding areas. Both can be harvested in one of three ways 1. Find their homes; usually located on prime structure & in prime cover, both are setup on structure & in cover that allows them to see all directions at once. Maybe not 360 but it'll be as close as they feel comfortable. 2. Find their feeding areas; multiple areas that have sufficient food to last the present season. 3. Find the trails to & from those areas; both travel structure in a way that allows them to see while remaining unseen.

  5. I was throwing a rage craw weightless on a ML/XF rod and 10lb braid buzzing it across the water when this guy slammed it! Super fun on light line, don't ask me how he didn't slice through that tiny braid....

  6. Killed it at Wolf Creek today with Brian and Drew! Junk fishing at it's finest! All joking aside, they seemed to want anything BUT the ned. Probably over 20 largemouths between the three of us, a bunch of hard pulling wipers and some incidental white bass. Numerous jerkbait doubles and a wiper triple. Drew took big bass at 3.65. Most of our fish came on jigs and jerkbaits, with the exception of Drews magical red square bill

  8. Senkos, brush hogs and beavers plus Zoom trick worms on a shaky head. You can also throw a drop shot, too. In fact, you can throw any plastic you want under and around docks and piers. This summer try throwing a wacky rigged Junebug finesse worm on a #1 hook with a 1/16 bullet weight on top of the hook tied to 6 or 8 pound fluorocarbon with your medium fast action tip spinning rig. Flip and pitch that sucker all over docks, piers and any cover you can see sticking out of the water. And use the lightest line you can when flipping and pitching docks and piers.

  13. You and me both! This Kansas weather doesn't sit well with my Texan blood. I was pitching under our kitchen chairs the other day, when I hit a cross bar on one of them. Suddenly, my wife's head just poked around the wall and stared at me for about 3-4 seconds (felt more like an hour). So needless to say, I moved the chair and kept on pitchin!

  16. When the revolutions begin & society breaks down, us bass fisherman with "too much gear" will be prepared. We will be able to feed our families for years without having to ever buy another lure, rod, reel or spool of line. So see, having so much tackle is the responsible thing to do. Now where the hell did I leave my tin foil...

  17. I'd say when you no longer fish but just look at your tackle, that's a problem.

  22. Speaking of getting started -- a buddy and me returned from a fishing trip to the boat ramp and there was a lad of 8 or 9 on the dock by himself. I could see he was holding a stick with a line in the water. We loaded the boat and I walked back to the dock to speak with the lad. He had fishing line wrapped around a stick and was letting the line out into the river hoping for a bite. Beside him on the dock was a container of worms and a cell phone. My buddy walked across the street to a bait shop and came back with a fishing rod. I retrieved a spare fishing reel from my boat and we rigged the lad up with rod and reel and then he asked me to show him how to tie on his hook. I showed him the simple Palomar knot, showed him how to make a cast, and he was now fishing like a pro. As we stood there he picked up his cell phone with one hand and made a call. I heard him say, "Mom, I don't need a rod and reel now, I have one." I walked away with a tear in my eye. I hope we made a bass fisherman out of him

  23. Okay, my wife says I need help and don't disagree completely, but than she said those heinous words. "You have too much tackle" Ohhhh.. Like any addict I denied it. I made reason, but than I got defensive. "There is no such thing as "too much tackle" So ladies and gents, am I wrong? Is there such a thing, where do you draw the line? What is too much?

  27. I enjoy having choices. Could I get by with much less? Absolutely. Do I have too much? Nope. Catching fish is only one of the things I like about bass fishing. I like the tackle, gear, conversation, and all the other pieces of the puzzle. If simply catching fish on one combo and a handful of lures works for you, enjoy. If having the price of a new vehicle (or several) in gear makes you happy, while having your financial house in order more power to you. Enough for me would not be enough for many. Not because I have everything I want, but because income limits my options. Buy what you can afford and enjoy the journey. My wife used to think I had too much also. Now that she fishes with me regularly, she likes having options as well...

  28. That's why I just bought another combo last week and am buying a new rod today. Wait no the new rod was an anal retentive purchase.

  31. I use a propane torch and for me it is easier and faster but you need to be careful of melting the lead off the hook. For a 1/8oz jig I hold it 1/2" above the flame and count 1-2-3-4 and turn the jig over and count the same 1-2-3-4 and it is down, for 1/4oz jigs I add a few more seconds. The important thing to do is count and remember the number and you'll be good to go.

  35. Too much tackle is when you have to rent a garage to store the excess. Otherwise you need more to keep up with the newest and best out there. Tell your wife that if she continues to hassle you about your tackle the Bait Monkey will visit her. And you don't want the Bait Monkey to visit you.

  36. How many outfits/purses/shoes does she have? She can only wear them one at a time so why does she need so many? And that's when the fight starts. Everybody has their thing that they spend money on that they really don't really need to.

  37. You will not win or lose with "A Wife" on anything.. You can only survive the day... Survive the day my man, then you can fight the baitmonkey.. Another hopeless battle that ultimately leads to a unconditional surrender.

  39. My parents tell me I have to many rods, reels and lures etc....... But I told them you can't ever have enough it's like only having one pair of shoes I mean one pair would work but it wouldn't be great for everything so tell your wife she has to many shoes or something of that sort

  42. LOL ... this is what happens when you have about 6 months in between casts. One of my winter projects is to organize tackle. This was reorganized just a few weeks ago from a plain 3700 I had and I added two new lures for next year ... 1.5 shallow and the Lucky Shad.

  43. Being willing to finish what you start is one of the most important life lessons in my opinion. From sports to jobs to marriages there will be times when quitting is the easiest thing to do, yet easy and right are often at odds. Integrity and maturity comes from commitment to doing the right thing even when it's difficult. Would someone please explain to me how giving more than 100% is possible?

  44. I am that organized, but I put more baits per compartment, gotta carry more ya know. Not that I´m actually going to fish with them.

  45. I use light & sound emitting diode technology inserted into my plastic worms, this helps to notify the bass. Then with a uv dye that is applied it can see it really good, after this I soak it in some type of stink fluid so it has the odor of, either a crawfish, shad, or my fave, worm guts, doing all of these things during muddy water fishing adventures are bound to help you get to the Bass Masters Classic, and truth be told, nearly guarantees a Victory.

  46. Digital scales are as accurate as the battery is at full charge. The accuracy is measured in % of weight being weighed; laboratory scales measure in .1 % accuracy! recreational scales in 2 % accuracy! big difference! Most spring scales are not linear in accuracy, the lower range differs from the upper range, the mid range is usually the sweet spot. The 25 lb Chitillian scale above also has a parallax issue with the sliding indicator alignment to the scale graduations, in 2 oz increments. I have this scale and used it for decades. My current scale is digital Ultra Sport 30 accurate within 1% up to 60 Lbs., the batteries good for 5 years., scale is approx $25 Tom
