  2. Caught this big girl this past weekend. Had a couple warm day's in a row in the mid 60's. Decided to hit the pond. Paid off big time. Caught her on an LDC H and a Pats Perch

  3. Rockfish that is, went trolling tandems off Ocean City, MD yesterday. Probably should have check the weather because we were battling 4-6ft swells all day but we managed 2-40" fish with 4 other pull downs that were missed due to the rough water. My biggest striper to date!!

  4. I found that when learning to Crank that one brand across various depths is working for me. Here's by Crankbait box ... covers me from 3 FOW all the way down to about 20 FOW.

  5. Perhaps - I'm always up for a good challenge. With only a few exceptions, the majority of my home lakes have both lmb & smb. And though I'll be "Targeting" the Big Mouth model, any Mutant Bronzeback that happens along will be deftly netted and displayed most proudly by my personal self. A-Jay

  6. i never have, but would really like to take a few combos/baits down to the football field for a real world test on how far i can throw it. then mix in some buckets or something to try and figure out at what length your accuracy begins to fail. but somehow i feel like i might be asked to leave or at the very least be looked at pretty foolishly. if i couldn't see the high school from my house i wouldn't care, but my neighbors would think i'm even weirder. they already think i'm weird for casting in the yard and tooling with my fishing stuff in the garage EVERY NIGHT.

  7. 50 yards is long way. Under certain conditions I cast further than that, tail wind with a 7'6 or 8' rod using a thin heavy profile lure like a metal jig fish or a kastmaster from an elevated position like a pier or jettie. Normal bass fishing from boat or waters edge 30 yards is probably longer than I cast.

  8. They feed whenever the hell they want to feed. The real question is when are they easier to fool. The answer, for me (strictly speaking of NLMBs in clear highland reservoirs), is during low light periods. (Low light includes but is not limited to early and late in the day.) Ya'll have fun getting a suntan.

  10. I'm always working on my metal attitude... but that's just me. But seriously I plan on trying to do more deep structure fishing, and (not bass fishing) trying to step up my dry fly game for wild trout.

  11. I'd really like to try and break out of some old established patterns and work on some new ones- which is why I just bought some new lures that will make me fish differently. I never do jigging or drop-shot and I think in 2015 I would like to try it. Something different at least...

  12. Grip, reel seat. hook keeper and decals are finished. Guides will be wrappedwith the gun metal and gold trim, underwrapped in the blue. Not the best pic. Thread colors are metalic blue/gun metal and the split grip area is a chevron

  14. His name was Bubba, he was from Louisiana and he needed a loan. So, he walked into a bank in New York City and asked for the Loan Officer. He told the Loan Officer that he was going to Paris for an International Cajun Festival for two weeks and needed to borrow $5,000 and that he was not a depositor of the bank. The bank officer told him that the bank would need some form of security for the loan, so the Redneck handed over the keys to a new Ferrari. The car was parked on the street in front of the bank. The Cajun produced the title and everything checked out. The loan officer agreed to hold the car as collateral for the loan and apologized for having to charge 12% interest. Later, the bank's president and its officers all enjoyed a good laugh at the Cajun from the south for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral for a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then drove the Ferrari into the bank's private underground garage and parked it. Two weeks later, the Cajun returned, repaid the $5,000 and the interest of $23.07. The Loan Officer said, "Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out on Dunn & Bradstreet and found that you are distinguished alumni from LSU, a highly sophisticated investor and multi-millionaire with real estate and financial interests all over the world. Your investments include a large number of wind turbines around Louisiana and Texas. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?" The good 'ole boy replied, "Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $23.07 and expect it to be there when I return?"

  16. lol... yeah i tried to stay simple, but i am afraid I failed miserably... This may be a better explanation. magnetic breaking is basically a black box containing magic that allows us to use a baitcaster without backlashing or at least reduces the chance. The method by which it controls the cast is purely magic so do not attempt to understand how it works just understand that it does... Mitch

  18. I think the other Elite series pros are catching up with Kevin. He is still an outstanding guy and wonderful bass fisherman and I expect him to return to his old form next year. Hey, even the New Orleans Saints have a bad season every once in a while.

  21. This is a quest that I should dive into further, but first I need a boat to get onto the smallmouth waters. I've caught several on swimbaits up to 7", but none have been very big other than one that was 4 pounds (a dink for you Dwight, I know, but with a state record of just 6.88, that's a big smallie here).

  22. Centrifugal brakes are efficient because they exert greater/less braking depending on the speed the spool is spinning. Mag brakes are a constant setting. Daiwa's system is a sort of hybrid and works well imo. I prefer cent. braking personally, especially bombing long casts. Mag brakes are ok for flipping , pitching etc. It's all in the thumb either way though.

  29. Could you do it with one brand, sure. But like many others, I fish various brands, but tend to stick with certain baits from each to make up my aresenal. SK makes great baits, use quite a few, but they do not make a balsa bait....hence need to pick up a different companies bait. With so many good companies out there, it's hard not to fish just one brand and having options with various baits for the same depth can make a big difference. Crank A may catch a few fish, but your buddy has crank B which has a little different action then A and is killing it. If you don't have crank B in your arsenal, well you get to catch a few while he catches a lot. Been there, seen it. So if you choose to fish one brand, hey your choice, but I'll choose to fish several for my arsenal so I have the options when needed.

  31. I don't own any sinking line, but love to throw heavy streamers on floating line. If fish are deeper than 10' I'll break out the casting/spinning gear. Fly fishing is a lot of fun but like everythingthatswims said, there is a time and place for all techniques.. my main objective is to actually catch the fish.

  34. you pop the side plate off, set the brake to 1 or 2 on depending on your thumb, and forget about them. the rest is your thumb and the cast control knob.

  36. When one fishes for smallmouth long enough, those days the bite is "off" start to add up. But when the guy with the fly rod discovers that the only thing they'll eat is a Bug, it's a game changer. A-Jay

  38. GPS Waypoint Accuracy. Having a very accurate GPS system makes finding stuff easier and less time consuming. Being dead-on is a lot better than being a few yards off. I have my bow sonar unit's transducer on the trolling motor and GPS heading sensor antenna at the bow for the best accuracy when returning to a waypoint to check it out and fish it if the conditions are right. The heading sensor indicates the direction the bow is pointed. This is a brushpile waypoint numbered----Hr9. There are two more nearby. This screen shot shows the waypoint just in front of the boat on the Chart view, The bow position is the center of the little boat icon and where the track is drawn from. The green ring around the waypoint is called Casting Ring and I have it set to 30' radius. At the same time that brush pile is shown just in front of the boat in the 360 view. As I moved around, in this screen shot, the brush pile is shown about 45 degrees off the port side of the transom about 20' away as indicated by the chart position icon and the brushpile itself in the 360 view.

  39. Picked this up today. I live 5 minutes from the river but can't put my glass boat on it. Plus we have a few places that are electric only and an outboard can't even be on the boat. So this should be a good time letting me hit some new areas. It's pretty well loaded for anything I'm gonna do in it.

  42. Most durable doesn't mean the most expensive, nor what is popular. Most of all it could never include the name shimano since they do not support their customers with long term parts availability. Baitcasting reel would be Abu Ambassadeur C models. Customizable almost to infinity and parts still available for decades old models. Spinning reel would be the before mentioned Daiwa SS or Penn Spinfisher as they also maintain parts for the customer for decades.

  43. You want to take shots at me just because I am confident that I am better with my stuff than the other guy...so be it..........just be prepared to get said shots back. Your "I'm in it for the fun" nonsense is, IMHO, loser talk....you have all the fun you want. I fish tournaments to win or cash, anything else is a bust. I fish for fun when money is not on the line. I don't care if you don't like "guy's like me".......I don't like guys who think everything should be hand holding, slapping each other on the back, and farting rainbows. When I lose, I am ticked, and it motivates me to do better, I am not wired to be "aw-shucks, maybe next time " guy.

  45. Unless you're going to find yourself wanting to blast off from very shallow water, I don't think I'd get one of these things. An aluminum boat with a 75hp motor isn't built for flat out speed, so trying to squeeze another 1-2mph out of the top end doesn't seem to be the best way to add a $1k to your retirement toy. If I was in your boat <pun intended!>, I think I'd use that money to upgrade electronics or pickup one of those anchoring systems for the transom.
