  4. If you have one rod and you get pleasure from it, more power to you. If I could have one, it would be the champ 734. However, I consider myself pretty common in that I have an average job. I just don't party, smoke, hunt, have kids or a house so I spend my money on my favorite hobby. Therefore I own two of the 734's lol

  10. Hey folks, We're going to be updating the server software tomorrow (Thursday) morning, which requires us to pull the site offline. This is a major OS update, so it's going to take all morning and into the afternoon to complete. We expect the site to be available again late tomorrow afternoon. Note that we're NOT changing the forum software in any way, so the updates will not affect what you see today. The updates will improve response time and security, as well as provide us with a wealth of new features from which we can build upon at a later date. Thanks in advance for your patience. Glenn

  15. Not really, 15# braid sounds like a nightmare on a baitcaster with dig ins. I'd go 30# or better, but really, I'd prefer something like 6 or 8# fluoro, like Tatsu.

  17. I don't find much comfort in the idea of "confidence baits," or that confidence buys you bites. I become confident through success. Success is defined in catches. Good knots, reliable gear, baits that do what you want them to do....that's what I'm confident in. Everything else is a part of the puzzle.

  22. I'm going to say whatever your tackle choice is (including your line), as long you feel confident that it will give you whatever chance you believe to be acceptable in landing the largest bass you expect / hope to land, you're good to go. It may all boil down to size of the bass you're fishing for. btw, I call Flipping or Pitching in "light Cover" with 12 pound line . . . . . . . Casting. A-Jay

  23. Man.......the bottom just plain fell out mid october around here. Things that have been productive for me FOR YEARS in the fall were just hauling water. Brown fish, green fish, toothy fish............didn't matter, none of them played nice the last 2-3 weeks. Not to mention my last half dozen trips or so where just in miserable cold conditions..........no excuses, but I just really didn't put forth the effort to figure it out either. It seemed like ever since my "man over board" episode on Conesus mid Oct. I was just out there going through the motions.

  24. In December they'll probably be spawning. Generally speaking you'll see groups of fish spawning at different times. The weather can trigger a spawn pretty quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if people start seeing beds in the next couple of weeks. For the most part there is only one season down here....fishing season.

  25. This reminds me of a story I may, or may not have told here once about a guy at work who was a "prepper" for things like this. He would boast how much water/food/etc.. he had on hand in case of an emergency. I said to him one day " that's great, but, ..................how many rounds of ammo do you have stockpiled" He said "none", I said "thanks for the food and water"

  27. Yep, they only work in CA, and only work on fish that eat stoked rainbow trout. Don't listen to those guys on Southern Trout Eater's. Thank's Speedbead, your ration of exported swimbaits will be headed your way soon.....sshhhh, don't tell those other guys.

  28. Don't all the packages now have the big warning label that says "This is product is know to contain a chemical that if used outside of California will cause skunkiness". I just figured this was California's way of getting back at us for all those products that only cause cancer in California.

  31. I had a pet largemouth in my back yard "goldfish pond" this summer. Released her today in my neighbor's pond so that if we were to have any issues with the pump in our pond freezing this winter I won't have to worry about the big bass. I fed it all kinds of baitfish, like bluegill, creek chubs, golden shiners, and suckers. The pond is only 3 or 4 feet deep and 11'widex16'long, it's located in my back yard so I could observe the fish through the window from my couch, I spent quite a bit of time studying the bass's habits... Watching this bass taught me a lot, I kept the pond chocked full of food so she could eat whenever she wanted to, and it was interesting to see how when she wasn't feeding, she would just hang out in the shade, and even when 20 little suckers swam by, she would just sit there. But when she did decide it was time to eat, it was an all out blitz, no ambushing, just chase them down, sometimes in full speed pursuit for 10-15 seconds at a time, and CHOMP! I also had a smaller bass in there, one particular time the smaller one managed to grab a bluegill so big that it took him 5 or more minutes to swallow, I was worried I would have to catch him and take it out so he wouldn't die, but somehow he swallowed it. The bigger bass was right beside him the whole time just waiting in case he spit it out, they are pretty bright creatures. It really was an eye opener for me, I was surprised to see how small of a time frame one can have to catch a big bass, a spot that may seem to be vacant could be on fire 10 minutes later. It also showed me that bass will use a significant amount of energy to capture food when they are in a feeding mode. I'm eager to get another one next year to study, may even try to get a couple pre-spawn and see what they do when the water warms! Measured 20"x14" today, fish calculator says 5.5lbs (I need to get new batteries for my scale)

  32. I didn't get out yesterday and a day late but to any vets on the board let me say you have my greatest appreciation and respect. Vets should be honored every day if you ask me. And nice fish caught by all. Especially the yellow perch

  33. That looks like one of the M spinning / MH casting situations I mentioned in my post. You have to get bit first before getting them in is a factor so it comes down to how light a rod will handle the baits you're talking about.

  34. I caught this one a couple of years ago on Oneida, it looked like it had been dipped in JJ's! Amazing green/blue/chartreuse colour to it. The picture doesn't really do it justice!

  36. there's a lake here in maine called "long lake" and it has lake trout, salmon, brooke trout and yes YELLOW PERCH. infested if you ask me haha, me and my friend wanted to stock our freezers with em' for winter and we went out there at 7AM to the same spot they're always at and caught 75 within that hour. once the frenzy was over we left. a little crappie crankbait and ultra light spinning outfit will catch perch after perch at their feeding hour.

  37. And I'm sure if Alabama loses, it'll be because of the refs, or it wasn't at a neutral site, or the wind was blowing form the south instead of the north... Bama had trouble on the road with Arky just like Miss State did. Hell, Kentucky played them strong. Any given Saturday??

  38. I didn't catch anything on Sunday..need to buy more sensitive rod other than my inexpensive ugly stiks... What is interesting though is a buddy of mine pulled this out of the lake which makes me wonder how big, how many, and where I can catch them! I didn't think Linganore had them

  39. Roll Tide! I think it'll be a good game but Bama I think will pull away in the end. Home field advantage will be the key difference IMO.

  40. I don't know how much grass you fish and to what level you want to fish a specific technique. I bought a new spinning rod this year for primarily fishing grass and also double as a rod for small hollow body frogs ect. It is a fenwick HMG 7' M/H. It is plenty strong to be able to pop a bait out of grass or drive a hook home. If I was fishing tons of grass and only had 1 rod I would rather be over powered then under powered. They also have a full front grip and that is a big factor for me in spinning rods.

  43. They are beautiful fish, hard fighters and truly excellent table fare. If the bass fishing is tough, or I'm looking for a relaxing change of pace, I often stop at a spot I know of and throw a little beetle spin on an ultra-light spinning rig for yellow perch and crappies. That's a pretty spot where you were fishing. Tight lines, Bob

  44. Lovely spot, to be sure. I've only caught perch recently on "accident" while targeting bass. Of course these buggers will bite a variety of lures.... Caught my share, though, up to 2 pounds (huge)!

  47. When you discover later tonight that your wallet is missing, you will realize those were actually midgets, not children and you fell for the ol' "pretend I want to hold the fishing pole" scam. Did you push any of them into the water?

  48. It depends on the depth, cover, and worm size but normal worms in the 6" to 8" in moderate cover in 2' to 5' I usually opt for a 1/8oz or 3/16oz but if I'm on a deeper weed line in 10' to 15' or if I'm using larger worms then 1/4oz to 3/8oz, I only use 1/2 oz bullet weights on 12" worms which is very seldom. So I guess my normal range is the same 1/8oz to 3/8oz.
