  1. As Raul correctly stated, the risk to us in the USA is significanly less than in other less fortunate parts of the world. But, our media has a long standing policy best stated by the expression "if it bleeds, it leads". I pay almost no attention to mass market media. I have completely lost my taste for manufactured hysteria.

  4. The cowgirls defense has been camouflaged by their running game. As long as they can keep running it like they have they can keep their D from getting completely exposed. Their offensive line took its first hit as well. Parker has taken the most reps in the slot so he may get the lions share but they can mix it up. Ruben needs to step up and he is capable. Giants are going to remind everybody that the cowgirls are scrubs.

  6. The fish will be very tight to cover I'm guessing, use baits that give off a lot of vibrations so the bass can find them easily,

  7. You don´t have to justify anything to anybody other than to yourself, I got 8 reels that have never been used, I should say, I have 8 expensive reels that have never been used, 4 of them aren´t even spooled with line, I used to fish everyday, nowdays I may fish once a month if I´m lucky but when that moment comes I want to enjoy it the most, having cool stuff and fishing with it is part of the gratification, that justifies every single penny I spent.

  9. Haven't been having a really good time lately, been doing poorly in school, not where I wanna be in sports, having family problems etc etc.. But when I fish that all exits my mind, its like I'm in my own world, not thinking about my next test or the fight I got into with my freind. Went out today and didn't get a nibble but I enjoyed it, been bank fishing more lately because its so peaceful... Lately it feels like I'm just going with the day to day motions but fishing helps get things off your mind so much!

  10. For whatever the reason I know I am not the only one who gets these little critters with no time to fish them. Although I did get a chance to throw one of the Pompadours for a very short time and was impressed with its action. So lets see the ones you have gotten recently but have not been able to use.....

  11. I bank fished from 5:00 PM tp 7:00PM in Weston Florida just west of Fort Lauderdale. This was the most beautiful evenings in 6 months with low humidity and comfortable temps, and very little wind. I caught 6 black bass and two peacocks. Largest bass was in the three pound range. All fish caught were very tight to cover, and relatively shallow.. The peacocks were caught in the Lilly Pads and hit as the lure passes over the pads and reentered the water. All were caught on zoom watermelon red speed worms, and 4" bass pro stickos, Okeechobee color. Water was clear with no movement at the culvert pipes. I saw fish schooling out in deep water all over the lake, but I could not cast far enough to get in the action. I think it was peacocks chasing bait fish.

  12. One hour split between two of my favorite bank spots, five bass between 1 and 3 pounds, two pike. The 3# bass felt like a new PB but turned out just to be foul-hooked, right in the snout. I informed him that that's what he gets for ramming his food first instead of just eating it. All on lipless cranks, including a couple of 1/2 oz. Voltage baits I had forgotten I picked up at Dick's for nothing. The stock hooks are extremely sharp garbage attached to the lure with further garbage, but with decent hooks and split rings these things are effective. Good day and thankful for it; I feel like last year at this time it was -40 degrees outside already.

  13. Fished the Potomac in DC today for smallies. Crankbait bite was slow. We got pummeled with rain the day before yesterday and it's post-frontal today. Water temp 64-67 air temp about 65-70. Water is turbid following the rain with maybe 12-15" visibility. Found fish tight to the bank in slack water pockets (not eddies, current is roaring through there right now.) Caught fish mostly dragging 1/8" round jig jeads with Zoom! 4" grubs in white, silver, and chartreuse. Also got some nice stripers on this rig, as well as drifting a popper in the current. Best fish went 2.5lbs at most. Still had a blast.

  14. It was mid 50's this morning and windy (10-15 mph). Stayed windy all day and temp got up to about 70 this afternoon. Water temp 64-67. Only caught 22 bass with several presentations.

  16. Went for a few hours this evening bank fishing, it was calm and sunny... I couldn't get a nibble, I was fishing a swim jig with no luck but after seeing bass striking top water I switched to a spook then buzz bait with no sucess, after that I went to a casting jig and didn't produce any. When the mosquitoes came out I called it quits haha Oh and I was fishing on moody air forces base's Mission Lake in valdosta Georiga, I don't fish there much but I know it grows some big ole bass

  18. Check the roller on the bail, it maybe frozen and not turning freely. Braid shouldn't be twisting, it has very little memory. Your lure may be spinning in the water when you reel in fast, that can be a problem. Loops are caused by the bail catching loose line, your problem is line twist, not loops. A good line dressing like Tangle Free will help reduce line twist. Make sure the line isn't being twisted when you spool on the line. The filler spool should lay flat, not on a spindle, with a spinning reel. When you wind on the line run it through your finger with very light pressure and watch the coils coming off the flat filler spool. If the coils start to twist, flip the flat filler spool over on the opposite side, then continue. Most filler spools work with spinning reels label up. If you use a spindle type line spooler, the line should come off the bottom of the spool, not the top. Good luck. Tom

  22. I'm a Missouri guy that just found out about this site. Normally I'm on other forums but this has quit a bit more info than anything else. I normally fish Truman, Pomme, Stockton, and T-Rock (all for fun, no tourneys). All these reports have me wanting to try out Melvern now. Last good smallmouth bite was over two years ago for me at Norfork. Needless to say I think I may be headed that way soon. This board has me seriously reconsidering KS fishing:)

  23. I've seen several causes for this. Like Raul said, slack reeled onto the spool will create loops of loose line going onto the spool. You can also create twist by using plastic worms that aren't perfectly straight on the hook along with other lures like in-line spinners. Try these things to see if they help. 1. Close your bail by hand and make sure there isn't any slack in the line as you start to reel. 2. After the fact, DO NOT pull the twist off the spool with the bail open. Close the bail, loosen the drag all the way, and slowly pull the line off just like a big fish is pulling it off. This should remove the loops with letting them knot up.

  24. It happens cuz they´re spinning, you are leaving slightly slack line as you reel in, after some time the line is twisted and it jumps off the spool as the line flows from it causing the line to tangle.

  27. As long as the water isn't frozen i get out there. I prepare for the cold weather and fish for bass or chase trout in a spring creek not far from me. I seem to go through my gear a few times a year when everything gets too out of whack but for the most part, i have no off season lol

  28. What's to guess? Put a level on the trailer, and jack it to level. Back your truck up, and get a close estimate. If the tongue weight drops your tow vehicle so much that it's not level, something's not right with the tow vehicle. I'd say my truck drops less than an inch from the tongue weight.

  30. It was a blast. Caught a ton of fish. Pretty much couldn't put the spook down all day. Caught a few on a jig, but it was practically every other cast on the spook so I kept serving up what they wanted. I'd like to hit that lake in the spring!

  32. My wife does the same thing! Except when she naps, I stop catching fish. When she wakes up she catches them... Makes me wonder why I don't just nap until she decides to fish again haha.

  33. For those that couldn't make it, we caught a ton of fish at Wilson. Raymond from Mondo showed up and we were gracious enough hosts to let him win the tournament . They had 13 and some change with big bass of 4.03 pounds. Chris and I had second with just shy of 11 pounds. We caught a boatload of fish, just could not find a big one to save our lives. We caught fish on almost everything except what worked for Raymond and his partner, topwater and a jig. I caught most of mine on a bladed jig, spinnerbait, and a wacky rig. Chris even threw a couple different 6 inch swimbaits, which caught 2 of our keepers, but still never got a big fish. I did have a porker spot that we weighed in though. Chris and I stayed Sunday and went to Cedar Valley, but I'll post about that on the KC thread.

  34. "Jazz" and "Orchestra" music are diabolically opposed musical forms. If you're looking for something easy to digest, I suggest big band, Ellington, Basie, Holliday, etc. For "orchestra" type stuff, I'd be looking more to the wind ensemble side, than the full on symphony orchestra music. Less strings, more horns, more drums. Aaron Copeland, Sousa, Owen Ried. Copeland is easy to find, Ried's La Fiesta Mexicana should blow just about anyone that's into complex prog/metal/math rock. ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING from the Gil Evans era Miles Davis or Coltrane will get you hooked. From there, you can move to some the faster hard bop stuff. If you can do a little more experimental/modern type stuff Weather Report's Heavy Weather, 8:30, and Night Passage. Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock aren't too far behind. I could go on, but I'm trying to stick to stuff that isn't too difficult to listen to, and take very little "ear adjustment."

  37. Winter boredom has set in for me already so I decided to do some painting. Re sprayed my Steez with a graphite grey. It's close to the factory color but with more metallic in it. You can see in the last pic the subtle difference.

  43. I have been meaning to get a few pics up of these 3 that I recently acquired. Not finished with them quite yet, but here they are for now. I'll update when I get them all like I really want them. Curious to see what people think of the cosmetic mods on the Tatula, in particular. Here's a description on each of them: The Fuego has lots of upgrades. It has a Zillion drag star, a 4-bearing JDM Zillion handle with Steez knobs, Carbontex drag, Boca OS7's with shields removed, duralumin worm gear from a TD-Z with the bearing upgrade, silver aluminum pawl cap and TD-Z 100M spool. I have a Zillion R carbon fiber handle and Daiwa original corks to go on it, but just haven't yet found the time. It is mounted on a Falcon Cara 6'10" Finesse Jig rod. The Tatula has only had cosmetic mods so far. It has a silver aluminum closed nut and a black retainer from a Quantum Kinetic PT and the drag star is from a Zillion 50th Anniv. I had to put an extra spacer washer under it to get it to work, since the drive shaft is just a hair longer than most Daiwa reels. It sits on a Rainshadow custom built on the RX-7 8' heavy crankbait blank, built for 6-8" treble hook swimbaits. The Alphas R is my personal favorite. It has a 6.8 gearset, high-speed worm gear with bearing upgrade, drag star and cast control cap from a Aird 100R Red Tune, Carbontex drag washers, Boca OS7's with shields removed, gold anodized handle nut and a mirror-polished Steez handle with RCS clear corks. It sits on a 7' H 2-piece Del Sol. It's a JDM stick from TailWalk. -Tim Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us

  44. I have picked a few reels up recently and have been doing minor upgrades to them, helps combat the cabin fever. The first is a Daiwa Fuego, it has a lot done to it, carbontex drag, abec 7's, added bearing to the levelwind, supertuned internals, Semper Fi CF handle with 4 bearing Megabass Hypercorks, Steeze swept dragstar, Hedgehog studio dress up parts. This is a Dawia Zillion that I picked up from a friend recently who preferred Lews reels, most of the work on this has been cosmetic to this point, I have a lot more planned for this one. The last is a JDM Gen 1 REVO IB, it is very similar to a Gen 2 Revo Premier, I have a few cosmetic changes to make to this reel, but really like the way it looks now.
