  2. Well that didnt take long. I did not even notice the 80 PSI so we have 2 winners. Tomustang is correct. From what I found. Dash is messed up and it says 24 mph at 500 rpm. So from this morning I have to subtract 24mph from my speed to calculate my actual speed. Guys please pm me your Name and address. I'll ship you out some jigs. Thanks for playing.

  3. They aren't legal on odd Thursdays, and cannot be used with a tungsten weight less than 7 milliliters, unless it displaces one ounce of water during the second full moon of a given month.

  4. I have done it..... Picked up a bank fishermen I don't know, that is. I have nothing to worry about. If they are bass fishing, and I am bass fishing, we already have something in common. I have made a couple of friends this way too. What is the worst thing that could happen. So far no one has really tried messing with the 6'+, 325 lb guy who shaves his head, talks to himself and yells a lot.

  5. No, if there is thunder or lightning. I won't start when it's raining hard, but I won't quit if it starts raining while I'm out.

  6. No offense, but I wouldn't be picking anyone up at the ramp... I know plenty of fisherman, if I wanted a partner on a particular day I'd have one. I enjoy fishing alone, I enjoy having a co-angler too...But if I'm out there alone it's because I want to be. If it's not a tournament, I'm usually alone. Your list of offerings is basically the same things you would be doing in a club...Why not look for a local club? Then you would get to know the boaters and wouldn't have to hitchhike. There's also the added benefit of making friends, tournaments, learning, and a regular schedule of events. Just a suggestion

  7. This arrived today. Purchased it on the 29th and it came from Japan in a few days. Quickest shipping I've ever seen. Will be put on a Phenix Recon 2 7'1 ml over the winter. For now I threw it on this med/mod falcon I had around. Spooled it up with some Yo Zuri #6 and threw in some boca os7's I had extra. Can't wait to try it out.

  8. Two guys, one old, one young, are pushing their carts around the grocery store when they collide. The old guy says to the young guy, "Sorry about that. I'm looking for my wife, and I guess I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." The young guy says, "That's OK, it's a coincidence. I'm looking for my wife, too... I can't find her and I'm getting a little desperate." The old guy says, "Well, maybe I can help you find her... what does she look like?" The young guy says, "Well, she is 27 yrs. old, tall, with red hair, blue eyes, is buxom wearing no bra, long legs, and is wearing short shorts. What does your wife look like?' To which the old guy says, "Doesn't matter, --- let's look for yours."

  11. Establishing a pattern is often challenging, but not always. There are several factors that come into play and each and every fishing situation is different. Clearly not all the bass in a system are all doing the same thing at the same time but often times, there's a decent percentage of the bass population that are. Knowing the bass's Traditional Seasonal movements can help narrow it down a bit as well as having a decent idea what the fishes predominate food source might be in that body of water at any given time. For me, the first step is to find fish that are willing to bite. Sometimes that in itself is enough of a challenge; and it sounds like you ran into that a bit today. Then once you've taken a few fish, perhaps you're able to determine what type of structure they are relating to, what kind of cover they are in (if any) and why are they there. Except for the spawn, it's almost always a prey driven decision. So if you've managed to get a few, based on what they ate, along with where & how you caught them; you might be able to duplicate that success in other area's of that system. Sometimes you may not have to move very far to find similar conditions; other times a boat ride is in order. Patterns are a funny thing. Sometimes they last for days & even weeks and other times they change several times in one day. It will definitely keep you on your toes. But when you find a good one, especially one that will last a bit and allow you to really zero in on the right kind of fish - it's a beautiful thing. Good Luck A-Jay

  13. IMO being proficient with different types of tackle not only gives you more options, it enhances the overall fishing experience. Casting, spinning, fly, center pin, and even trolling have produced catches of bass and other species.

  14. In the beginning, Kentucky watch makers created the modern baitcasting reel, and the reel was good. The Makers intended the rod to be cast with the reel on top but retrieved with the reel underneath. And lo, the fishermen disobeyed the law set forth by the Makers. For their disobedience, they were condemned to switch hands after the cast for a period of four generations. At the end of four generations, the fishermen were freed by the bass prophets Abu Garcia, Daiwa, and Shimano. Only the chosen ones, the Lefties, were spared this plight. And the Lefties, for the favors bestowed upon them, were thus persecuted by those whose handedness necessitated the shifting of hands after the cast. - The Book of Joshua, 19:77

  15. Me too. I didn't say I hated the translations, just that they're funny. We should get a group that posts like this for one whole day. That would be hilarious.

  16. LOL... English: I am going fishing in the morning. Translated Japanese: When the great ball of life rises from the eastern horizon, the dreams will vanish, only to appear a living dream of pursuing that which desire the most today.

  17. The translation is funnier than the bait....I wonder if the Japanese really speak in such metaphors?

  18. Experience and gear helps. Good rain gear negates the rain, even heavy rain. Being able to run the trolling motor without thinking negates the wind. Those are the two big ones that keep people off the water. Weather is part of the game...Rain, wind, cold, hot, etc...With enough experience and appropriate gear you almost don't even notice it. I actually sort of enjoy adverse conditions because it gets everyone off the lake. In tournaments it basically eliminates half the field since they can't or won't cope with it.

  19. I'm going to make a prediction. We will never see a pic of Raider. Because Raider is NOT some 6'2", 300 lb muscle bound electrician on a Harley. He is really someone's 85 year old, 95lb, white haired grandmother, kicked back in her recliner, flowered house dress and comfy slippers, with a glass of cheap whisky at one hand and cigarette in the other, having an absolute blast with her laptop, yanking all our chains. You have been warned.

  23. This post isn't about how to use your sonar unit, it's about how to use your sonar unit to locate active bass along with your other senses like eye sight, hearing and some common sense. At the moment it's early fall transitioning to winter or the colder water period. Bass, largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass are relocating, it's time to move. I don't fish from shore, so I will talk about using a boat to locate bass. The big advantage a boat gives us is mobility, we can go everywhere on the water that is open to fishing. When I launch my boat the first thing I do is start the big engine and let it warm up, the next thing is put the trolling down, switch on the sonar unit and check the surface water temps. I do this year around, it's my routine. The next things I do is look around for fish eating bird activity, under the docks at the marina for bass and baitfish, then making a wide slow circle around the launch ramp out into deeper water looking for how deep any basss or baitfish might be...surveying the marina to determine where the bass and baitfish located. Some days I don't leave the marina and catch bass there for hours. Grebes, both western and pied billed are shad eating birds, cormorants and seagulls eat all types of fish, so look for fish eating bird activity, active birds equal active predator fish like bass. My next move depends on the seasonal periods, generally I divide the lake into 3 parts; the lower end by the dam is the deeper water zone and good place to start during the winter or colder water periods. The middle section of the lake is good during transition periods like pre spawn and fall, the upper third for spawn and summer transition. The 3 lake zones are very general, but a starting place to continue my sonar survey. Big lakes with large creek arms are like individual lakes. I like to survey major points starting at the base near shore and make a slow circle out into deeper water like the marina area and circle back along the opposite side of the point looking for signs of active bass or baitfish. If I meter them it tells a lot, if I don't see anything it tells the bass are somewhere else. If you meter the marina and major point without seeing any signs of bass or bait fish, the bass maybe tight to cover, so go check out the cover areas. To check out cover requires fishing in the cover. Tom

  26. So, "Raider of Loxley", all this banter and still no pics... I think I'm going with the sizing up that .Ghoti laid on ya. 85 years is a lot of time to develop a colorful imagination. So I have hired a private detective and after some brilliant detective work, here's some pics he has taken of "Raider" for me... You are so busted! She's the one sitting on the Harley.

  27. I have and like them both. The Tat has a longer handle and larger size, I'm using it on one of my main jig rods The TP is a bit smaller and I have several of them and they do everything from jigs to finess techniques I don't use my 50 Shimanos for.

  28. Thank you! I changed the frame to stainless, swapped the gears to something slightly more modern so it's as quiet as my 2014 5500c3, and put some newer line on it as that other stuff was a couple years old. I did swap the brake plate out while I was at it, just because. Prettier? What's more, there's just nothing that modern reels can do that this one can't. It's as smooth as most modern reels, has more bearings than most of them, and I just can't think of anything that I need that this won't provide. Lessee: Retrieve is 23IPT or so. Test casts at 40+ yards. Practical casts on the lake are 20-30+ yards depending on lure. I can palm it. I do have large hands, but whatever. There's plenty of blacklash control. Two small brakes and my thumb do just fine. On modern reels, if I can't use my thumb, I fix 'em until I can, dangit! I've never been spooled. There's like 125 or 150 yards of braid on there to play with before it hits the rather substantial (25lb mono) backing. Sure, I have modern stuff. None of it beats this reel. I bought the modern stuff so I had a couple more retrieve rates, so I have retrieves of 23IPT, 26IPT, and 30IPT (4.7:1, 5.3:1, and 6.3:1 on round reels of the 5000 size). My retrieve rate doesn't drop that much with these wide spools, either, if I am fishing long distance. This rod and reel have taken many, many bass, a huge buffalo fish, bunches of catfish, and quite a few other fish that I caught while "seeing what was out there" that would have torn many newer bass rigs up... badly. I'm playing with the idea of putting another dog on the anti-reverse, too. While I don't mind the delay before the dog catches, a second one would provide some redundancy that I appreciate, and it would also provide a faster catch. Instant anti-reverse still feels kinda' funny to me. It's an idea have that I'll play with if I can find the time to do so. Regards, Josh

  29. Both awesome reels. I own both and love them. The lews is lighter and throws lighter baits easier but i can bomb long casts about the same distance with either reel with 3/8 oz weights and over. The tatula gets the nod from me but the only reason is the price. Both can be had under retail but the tatula can be found for right around 100 and the cheapest i found the tournament pro is 145.

  30. I like my Daiwa stuff and Lews also. I've owned both. I'd give a slight edge to the Tp but not by much. The edge is due to the weight of the Tp and it's easier to palm for most. As for the regular tatula vs the type r. There's no noticeable difference. Type r has a lighter spool by like .3 grams and it has 2 crbb. Different paint scheme and red accents. Also a Zion drag star but like I said you can't tell when fishing them.

  31. My New Cowboy Boots Bert at 80 years old, always wanted a pair of authentic cowboy boots, so seeing some on sale, he bought them and wore them home.Walking proudly, he sauntered into the kitchen and said to his wife, "Notice anything different about me?" Margaret at age 75, looked him over and replied, "Nope." Frustrated as all get out, Bert stormed off into the bathroom, undressed and walked back into the kitchen completely naked except for the new boots. Again he asked Margaret, a little louder this time, "Notice anything different NOW???" Margaret looked up and said in her best deadpan response, "Bert, what's different? It's hanging down today, it was hanging down yesterday, and it'll be hanging down again tomorrow." Furious, Bert yells out, "AND DO YOU KNOW WHY IT'S HANGING DOWN, MARGARET?" "Nope. Not a clue", she replied. "IT'S HANGING DOWN, BECAUSE IT'S LOOKING AT MY NEW BOOTS!!!!" Without missing beat, old Margaret replies, "Shoulda bought a hat, Bert.Shoulda bought a hat."

  37. I used to fish for big bluegills with a small aberdeen hook and piece of nightcrawler with no weight or bobber. Cast it to a likely looking spot and watch for the line to twitch, how I learned to be a line watcher before I even knew what that meant

  39. One question I have is in an area that is (for example) 15 ft deep, I sometimes will find bass suspended at 9 ft. Is the next step then to move to target areas that are 9-10 ft? Especially if using a bottom contact technique i.e. jig n pig?

  40. Great post. I don't fish many reservoirs, I mainly fish small, natural lakes and with few exceptions rarely use my electronics to find fish. I do, however attempt to observe my surroundings and that includes keeping an eye on my depth finder. I only run flat out to a spot that has been productive recently, the rest of the time I will take my time getting to an area I believe may be. I'll keep my graph speed on high and split screen with zoom. If I pass over an area I think is worth checking out, I'll mark it so I can return later to check it out. I'll break the lake down in a similar matter, but from top to bottom rather than end to end. Seasonal locations will dictate where I begin. Weed growth is to me what bird activity is to you, so density and depth along with the types of weeds are what I look for. My final step before actually fishing is to look for either structural changes or points or pockets in the outside weed line. If the bass are active, I'll know in short order. If not, I either need to get into the weeds, or hit the docks.

  43. The idea of a handle spliced to a blank isn't horrible. I've done it to achieve lengths and powers not readily available. The problem is the poor way it was done causing it to come apart. This could easily fall under "what you don't know won't hurt ya". If we hadn't seen this one example users of these rods would continue to recommend them. They still may.
