  7. Monday morning they pulled a 40 year old man out of a local lake. He had been fishing Sunday and had text several pictures of fish that evening. He was in a canoe and something happened. This lake is only 36 acres and 8 ft. deep. It just goes to show anything can happen in the blink of an eye. We all need to be diligent with water safety. I'll think of this every time I'm there. Be safe all, Brian.

  8. The deepest we catch bass is around 40'. It's the lakers that we take consistently at deeper depths.

  13. An elderly couple had just learned how to send text messages on their cell phones. The wife was a romantic type and the husband was more of a no-nonsense guy. One afternoon the wife went out to meet a friend for coffee. She decided to send her husband a romantic text message and she wrote: "If you are sleeping, send me your dreams. If you are laughing, send me your smile. If you are eating, send me a bite. If you are drinking, send me a sip. If you are crying, send me your tears. I love you." The husband texted back to her: "I'm on the toilet. Please advise."

  16. Despite the fact that I mostly fish saltwater and most saltwater fisherman I know keep their catch, I'm a die hard artificial user and release the majority of my fish. Using bait to catch fish isn't real sporting to me, I can't say how often I'm offshore and my partner is using cut bait for kings and I'm casting or hard metal jigging. "It ain't the kill, it's the thrill".

  17. And just when I was about to go to bed. I had to read that. I swear if I have dreams about fat men like that tonight. I will hunt you down. Also a little note to Raider. National hug a machinist day came and went. Were was my hug bro? I sat at home all day waiting for you. I even shaved, showered, put on pants, and clean drawers. All for you.

  22. Sometimes the misses are not bass, but bait fish, brim, blue gill, shell crackers, grapping the ends and tugging, instead of sucking in the bait like a bass. Don't forget Zoom trick worms for your wacky rigs. They are not as thick as senkos, have less resistance when in the fishes mouth, have great movement when jerked, and better when using those smaller hooks, like circle hooks. I have used Zoom Trick Worms wacky for years.

  23. I hear you on fishing waters that can grow big fish. I see "location" as meaning -within a given water body. It’s interesting that a lot of the thread is wrangling through the jargon. We anglers often coin our own language, adopt jargon, and use words interchangeably. I’m also aware of the multiple levels of time and place scaling involved when people talk fishing. Scaling is a tough thing to get a handle on. It’s easy to make the big broad predictions –like water body and season. But things get hairier the closer and finer we get in specific locations and timing. My giving 10% away to "entropy” was my paying humble homage to the complexities inherent in fishing. Granted, it would have been less complicated had I just used 100% at each step. As I understand it, fishing is a lot about being in control, understanding, knowing where you’re at and what’s up. But to be brutally honest with my ego, I must concede to the fact that most often it’s my hindsight that’s 20:20. My foresight is not so finely resolved. There are too many things (I call them conditions and circumstances) that rear up and dash my best laid plans. So I re-think, adjust, adapt, and in the end, I have a cohesive story. But the story wasn’t written before I left the house. And my final story is always just a little piece of what’s really going on out there. I’m proud of what I do know, and that I know enough to predict at some level and, often, how to adjust. Yet I’m well aware that this works best when I can fish every day. It would work even better if I were an otter. But I’m not. Well… interestingly, one angler’s bad day can be another’s boon; even when they're sharing the same boat! We all start as one-trick wonders, and add versatility over time. I’m sure we’ve all had conditions and circumstances when we couldn’t catch a fish, and had someone show us how to do it, or we just figured out a new wrinkle. Some can be real eye openers. I’ve had all kinds of ideas as to why the fish weren’t biting. Many were and are true. But there are more ways in than I presently understand, or manage to decipher in the moment.

  24. A young ventriloquist is touring Sweden and, one night, he's doing a show in a small fishing town. With his dummy on his knee, he starts going through his usual dumb blonde jokes. Suddenly, a blonde woman in the fourth row stands on her chair and starts shouting, "I've heard enough of your stupid blonde jokes. What makes you think you can stereotype Swedish blond women that way? What does the color of a woman's hair have to do with her worth as a human being? It's men like you who keep women like me from being respected at work and in the community, and from reaching our full potential as people. Its people like you that make others think that all Blondes are dumb! You and your kind continue to perpetuate discrimination against not only blondes, but women in general...pathetically all in the name of humor!" The embarrassed ventriloquist begins to apologize, and the blonde yells: "You stay out of this! I'm talking to that little shet on your lap."

Five of them were over 18" and this one was the largest at around 22". Pics don't do justice as she had some decent girth All fish caught from shore fishing Black/Red Flakes Fat Albert jig.

  30. New Kent County deputies pulled a 68-year old man out of the Pamunkey River today. He had engine trouble while fishing and he tried to swim to shore when the under current grabbed him and took him down. I am curious to find out if he was wearing his PFD when he attempted to swim to shore. Just a reminder to wear your PFD even if it makes you look like a nerd. At least you will be a live nerd as opposed to a kool corpse.

  34. Though WRB mentions some great info on the bravado of Northern Strain vs Florida Strain bass, I cant stress enough how well a 13" pickeral catches 5lb+ bass. Though most of what he stated is spot on, I'd still say if you are targeting a 5lb+ bass in the northeast, I'd throw a 8"+ swimbaits. fish slow, moving "rate of stall" style swimbaits, Though the fish are much more aggressive to lures, they do shy away from moderate to fast moving big swimbaits. New Jersey namely has a healthy stocker trout program. And the big bass in those waters stage prior to the stocking just like they do in CA. I'm talking 40 degree water...They don't care. Once the trucks drop off, its game on. Yes, I do believe northern strain fish, are wired to target a smaller forage. They can be definitely be conditioned otherwise,

  35. Tragic, sorry to hear. Safety should be the #1 priority when on the water. I always wear a PFD when I'm out. Never know what might happen out there.

  37. The biggest problem anglers face on Anna is not paying attention to detail , not all fish are deep at Anna , although you can find a quality bite deep , your timing must be accurate , the struggle you have is the same as a lot of anglers , myself included , unless you do your homework , fish Anna everyday , pay a guide to go out , which if you choose to get a guide I would suggest you talk to Chris Craft there at Fish Tales at Anna Point , lots of great people there !! Every trip out at Anna is going to be a learning experience , good or bad , you must take what she is giving you and learn from it , document it , mentally or notably in a log , the summertime bite at Anna is slow , your presentations should be slow to match , the morning bite is furious , you need to be ready to take full advantage of that as well , once it turns off , it's like a light switch , literally ! If your stuck to fishing shallow waters or safer waters due to heavy boat traffic and such , try finding some areas loaded with docks on bright sunny days , teach yourself to skip baits under them , learn to let them soak and move them slowly , even though the water is hot and the fish become lethargic , keep in mind their metabolism is still high and must eat , that's something you have in your favor , if you find a good spot and they are not in the mood to eat , move on and come back to it in an hour or so and try again . Unless you have good quality equipment which can make all the difference in the world , it's difficult to pattern Anna , there are still ways to pattern fish there though such as casting behind a boat that just moved through etc... In given times of the seasons . I use primarily green colored baits for my plastics , this time of year though when the bass are on shad , then shad colored baits work best especially when they are aggressively chasing shad , if your not out there everyday learning something , it's difficult for sure , stay focused , be patient , don't move too fast on those high pressure days !! Hope this helps !! Good luck and be safe !!!
