  10. Smallies without a doubt. Next time if you're not sure just close their mouth and see if the bottom jaw extends past the eye. If it does it's a largemouth, if it doesn't it's a smallmouth (or spot or basically any of the other subspecies of bass).

  11. Drinking and driving is never ok. He was putting your life, his life, and anyone who he met on the roads lives in jeopardy. I'm not going to pretend I've never done it myself like I'm sure a majority of people have in their lives, but that doesn't make it anymore right. If whoever I'm fishing with wants to enjoy a couple cold ones on the water, that's fine as long as they're not getting falling down drunk. Littering, like drinking and driving, is never ok. I'd have told him to give the empties to me and put them in my tackle bag to be thrown out when we got back to the ramp, which couldn't have happened fast enough if it was me in that situation. Even throwing cigarette butts out the window or out of the boat irritates me.

  13. I think it's ignorant to judge people who have a few beers when fishing. I don't need beer to fish but don't see a problem with responsibly having a cold one on the water! I don't drink and drive and never litter. But every know and then me and my dad or grandpa will share a 6 pack. I feel it is never Ok to litter but on my waters it's totally legal to have a beer. I've even been stopped by a warden who said he drinks on the sac river on his days off.

  16. Drinking depends on how much, a few brews ( 2-3 even 4 ) in an entire day aren´t going to kill anybody, littering is another history, that´s a definite NO.

  17. My boyfriend and I both caught bass at Lake Winnepesaukee. He is telling me they are both small mouth bass but I think mine is a large-mouth and his is a small mouth. My fish is first below and his is second. Can anyone help solve this battle?

  18. Last week I spent a day fishing Georgian Bay. I was very impressed with the number and caliber of fish I found, and being close by, I naturally wanted to try again. I launched at around 730am yesterday and despite the low winds, there were still 4 foot rollers out there. We had strong winds the previous day and being such a large body of water, it needs that extra time to calm down. Ended up in a whole new area, tucked behind some islands. We struggled all morning, landing just 3 fish in about 6 hours, very good fish mind you, all on prodigy tubes. At about 2pm, I found a small stretch that was absolutely loaded with big smallies. We beat up on them throwing blades and then the wind died and we switched to drop shots and sticks. Amazing day, I'm quickly falling in love with this lake!

  21. just let me say, this all means the world to me fellas! i'm laid up on the couch now - and thanks to yalls prayers - the surgery yesterday went way better than expected and the doc said that the operation was an extreme sucess:) apparently I was blessed with an extra tough meniscus, so the repair to that was much less invasive that previously thought would be needed, and the doc was able to patch up both the ACL and MCL pretty well. With alot of prayers and therapy, there is a chance that I may be able to play baseball again as soon as next year! Look, thank you all again so very much, it REALLY meant the world to me, and I'm convinced that the prayers from all yall caused this surgery to go way better than planned - the doc said it was like a miracle ... that one of the worst tears he's ever seen turned out to be one of the most sucessful operations he's had. i'll tell you this, I definatley won't forget all the support from my bass resource brothers! Again, appreciate it fellas, yall are the best!

  22. The bass won't go any deeper than the thermocline in your pond, once it develops in the summer. A shallower pond fed by a lot of current or stirred by a lot of wind may not develop a thermocline. I suspect if yours goes down to 60 feet deep there will be one. To see a thermocline go out on the pond with a fish finder and turn the sensitivity all the way up. You should see a dark line across the screen at the depth of the thermocline. In a nutshell, the thermocline is created by the change in water temperature of the upper layers of the water column. The colder water is denser in the summer and stays deep. All living things that die end up in this water and as they begin to rot the oxygen content of the water below the thermocline can become anoxic to the point where it doesn't contain enough oxygen for bass and other fish to live down there. In the fall, the upper layers will cool until they reach the same temperature as the deeper layers and the water will mix, thus creating the fall turnover. In the Winter, once the water reaches 39.4 degrees and below on top, this warmer water becomes more dense and sinks below the cooler water. (One of the strange things about water is when the temperature is above 39.4 degrees, warmer water is less dense and floats on top of the cooler water. When it is below 39.4 degrees, warmer water becomes more dense and sinks.)

You're feelings are normal, focus on you're future above all else, and you're hobby last, it will all come togeather , patience. Borrow you're friends till you one day have you're own, something tells me in a couple of years you're desires will change. Good luck

  29. Okay, first have to say I have been really impressed by the Savage Gear Line Thru line of swimbaits. Great action, a little tweeking and you can make them suspend and the top hook holder design works great. Have watched several nice fish follow and eat these baits including a 9lb fish I watched fishing from shore follow, creep up underneath to set up for the strike, watch it quiver, twitch the bait and watch it disappear. A bite I know I will not forget. For the price of these baits I have to give them a 9 out of 10. They deserve to sit up there with the Hudds although they have more of a Triple Trout swimming action and gives a different presentation option for those looking to expand their swimbait arsenal without breaking the bank.

  32. Sounds like braided line spooled with no backer. The line slipping, not the the spool. Prefer easy to figure out. Mark the spool with a non permanant marker and pull the line off. If the mark doesn't move, your line is skipping on the spool. Refill the spool using a few turns or more of mono as a backer. Tie your braid to that and fill the spool up.

  33. The first knot my Dad taught me to tie 61 years ago was the Clinch Knot. The second knot was the Improved Clinch Knot. Most knots do an admirable job as long as they are tied properly. Just because one knot breaks at 2 pounds more than another with the same line doesn't mean it is necessarily a better knot for fishing. It isn't like we will be putting maximum stress on a knot during normal fishing. Only time I put that kind of stress on a line is when I am trying to break it. I'd rather the line broke at the knot than at my rod tip. I know I don't have the hookset my Dad did, but it must be kind of wimpy because I have never broken a knot or a rod setting the hook. What can I do to be more manly? I already have hairy arms legs, and chest. :teeth:

  34. Brother... I said I wouldn't fish there, let me repeat that, I wouldn't fish there. I can do whatever I want if I don't want to fish the dock I don't have to? If you want to go ahead? But if a guy comes out and calmly asks you to stop fishing the dock and move along and you don't listen and continue to fish then that's on you. If someone politely asks me to do something I'll do it even if I don't have too. Sometimes its just good manners, they may have had someone damage their dock so they are being more safe than sorry and asking all fishermen to stop fishing their dock.

  37. Well, the drinking part Im not totally against. I've been known to crack open a beer or two (certainly not a "40" though) on a long day out on the water. However, I do know that a lot of people look down on drinking and boating because of the number of accidents caused by impaired boaters. The littering part is a definite deal breaker. If I were a guest, I might not say anything, but I would make it a point to not fish with them anymore. Its too easy to stash your trash on the boat and toss it in one of the numerous garbage cans placed by the ramp. I guess some people feel the need to discard their alcohol containers on the water, so a CPO wont find any "evidence" of them drinking, but I find it easier to just not drink to the point of innebriation and also by not acting like a jack*** on the water and drawing attention to myself...but thats just me...

  38. A Farm Kid Joins the Marines Dear Ma and Pa, I am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Marine Corps beats working for old man Minch by a mile. Tell them to join up quick before all of the places are filled. I was restless at first because you get to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m. But I am getting so I like to sleep late.. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot, and shine some things. No hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Practically nothing. Men got to shave but it is not so bad, there's warm water. Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other regular food, but tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by the two city boys that live on coffee. Their food, plus yours, holds you until noon when you get fed again. It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much. We go on "route marches," which the platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it's not my place to tell him different. A "route march" is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks. The sergeant is like a school teacher. He nags a lot. The Captain is like the school board. Majors and colonels just ride around and frown. They don't bother you none. This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting. I don't know why. The bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don't move, and it ain't shooting at you like the Higgett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. You don't even load your own cartridges They come in boxes. Then we have what they call hand-to-hand combat training. You get to wrestle with them city boys. I have to be real careful though, they break real easy. It ain't like fighting with that ole bull at home. I'm about the best they got in this except for that Tug Jordan from over in Silver Lake . I only beat him once... He joined up the same time as me, but I'm only 5'6" and 130 pounds and he's 6'8" and near 300 pounds dry. Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in.. Your loving daughter, Alice

  39. Sufix Performance is a very good braid at a lower cost than many. If you want a braid that is ts very supple, then try Daiwa Samurai. It is usually thinner than other braids of the same strength because it is closer to its actual listing than most. The older Power Pro is very reasonably priced, but quite noisy. It is also quite thin as is the newer braid. 10# 832 is equivalent to 4# mono while the Power Pro is equivalent to 2# mono. Although I have Sufix 832 on one of my spinning reels, it has seen very little use because I prefer baitcast reels. Many say it is another exceptional braid. The new Power Pro is also highly thought of. Sunline has its fans as well. Pretty hard to buy a bad braid. I prefer mono or a copolymer myself, but braid does have its uses.

  43. So I've had a handful of swimbaits for awhile and just never used them. My son wanted to use them last night and caught a couple fish on them so tonight I was on the water alone and decided I was going to give them a shot and try to figure out what all the fuss was about. 10 minutes in I had landed a 4 lb bass. I didn't get on the water till 7 so I didn't have a lot of time but I did catch 10 bass and 5 crappie on it and really enjoyed it. Caught all of them on our local reservoir. The biggest one I caught was super long I've caught 6lbers that weren't any longer he just wasnt very fat. Here's a few of the fish I caught and a sho on the way in.

  45. welcome to the site KingZ Does anyone beside me carry and extra trolling motor prop, nut and pin in their boat? I fished with Shane last week and we lost a prop. This happened to me at Massabasic a couple years ago and paddling that long sucked. so i bought 2 , we used it last week changed it right in the middle of the river. I went right out and got another extra one. for $16.95 you cant get any cheaper insurance. Shane was surprised when we lost it , but i think he was more surprised when i had a spare.

Satisfy your curiosity. Let us know how it turns out. All the best. Our thoughts are with you for a successful reunion and the answers to those questions you have been wanting answers to for 55 years.
