  2. Needle nose pliers. You just got to have a good set of needle nose pliers. Especially when you are throwing treble hook baits.

  6. No, I did not literally beat a dead horse today but I just wanted to talk about my new confidence bait and I believe I can share this feeling with many people on BassResource!! The SiebertOutdoors jigs. Today I had a 24/7 color arkiehead with a black and blue D-Bomb and a Black w/ Red Tip arkie head with a red and black D-Bomb. Let me tell you a little something. These jigs straight up catch fish! At first I wanted to try out my Denny Brauer jig with rattles and yeah I caught a few dinks but as soon as I tied on my SiebertOutdoors jig I caught some whoppers!! I was both crawling them on the bottom and swimming them and HOLY CRAP did my thumbs get TORN UP from lipping all these fish! I caught at least 20 fish on these jigs and from now on I refuse to use any other jig! So what about you guys? Any success stories? Your best setups? Favorite head? Heres just one of the many!!

  11. First and foremost, location. Ya gots to find fish to catch 'em! Next, moving baits or bottom baits? Next, exact depth. Two weeks ago it was +/- 19' ONLY on the Tennessee River. Next, lure. For whatever reason, a thin 3" tube was the ticket. Next, color. Watermelon ruled and I tried EVERYTHING else!

  13. How would you fish it!? #3 I thought this would be a interesting, fun idea: I give you a photo of a spot and i give you the current conditions. You are given five baits that you must pick from to use. You may suggest a bait for this spot. Some of the baits may be difficult to use during given conditions or new to you. You must choose a bait from the five baits, explain your reasoning, and how would you work it (speed, etc.) The spot: Conditions: Sunny, clear sky, warm, shallow water (pond is quite shallow overall), late May, mid to high 70's ( degrees ), LOTS of weeds, plants and grass, clear water, midday. Lures with exposed hooks pick up lots of weeds The baits : [images are not actual scale] 1. Gary Yamamoto Senko, 5" Bama Bug color 2. Booyah Poppin Pad Crasher Frog, Cricket Frog color 3. Booyah Boo Jig, Watermelon/Red flake color w/ Strike King KVD Perfect Plastic KVD Chunk + 4. Zoom 4" Fluke, Watermelon seed color 5. Johnson Silver Minnow Weedless Spoon

  14. The guys at bass pro shop were saying that the RoboWorm Margarita Mutilator (purple top and brown bottom) was extremely popular bait in the delta..I dont fish that far towards the bay. I fish mostly by Stockton... everything near 8mile road.. alot of the areas I fish are farm irrigation but they cam hold monster bass Good luck

  15. Kill em on the spook, keep throwing that for atleast the first hour. Most tournaments this time of year on Buggs island are won on the person that can get them to hit topwater first thing in the morning. It's a tough lake. Have hope in a topwater spook. And if you start fishing shallow and don't get bit, get out deep. Find some good points they're holding on or some ledges. You might only get bit there 5 times a day so make every single bite you get worth it. Best of luck.

  16. There are basically 2 ways to do it. The basic problem is, if you want to install new cork from the rear of the rod, it has to reamed out to the largest diameter of the blank (at the butt) in order to get it on the rod. Since rod blanks are tapered, that means a bigger void than usual at the front of the handle where it meets the reel seat, which has to be filled with epoxy or a combo of tape and epoxy. What I usually do is strip the rod down and then rebuild it - including any guides that a new reel seat will not fit over, a new reel seat, and cork handle. This yields the best cosmetic result and a slightly lighter rod. But it's possible to do it from the rod butt and many guys would not know the difference, especially on a spinning rod that has a butt diameter that is not very different from the diameter where the handle will sit. IMO, unless you are gonna do it yourself, you need to think about how much you really hate the Crucial foam handles - because the fix won't be cheap.

Glasses license rain gear However the worst thing i ever did was leave my chest waders home during an october salmon trip...i waded in the salmon river for six hours that day until i couldnt tie a knot anymore because i was shaking so bad from being mildly hypothermic. I did catch a PB Coho that day lol

  19. Im good on my own but if im with another fisherman who loves to fish as much as me i do the same. I always fish the bank due to no funds for any boat an not close to rentals. But i always catch some fish alone or with others. If its a long day of fishing another fisherman around is nice!! Lol

  24. Yellowstone River, Yellowstone Park: 2 lb. trout wallowing on the surface attached to a fly, which was attached to a 5x leader, which was attached to a fly rod. Enter center stage: a pelican with an 8 ft. wing span and a mouth about 3 feet long. Needless to say, the battle lasted about 30 seconds, but it's end result was never in doubt.

  31. Going down to CT tonight coming back Sunday morning... Hopefully I'll be able to get some fishing in at my favorite bass river the Housatonic. It is loaded with 2lbs smallies and is crazy fun when the bite is on, which it usually is, catching a decent smallie thrown in with the occasional trout nearly every cast some reaching over 20"... My girlfriend will be on camera duty with the GoPro LOL the scenery is pretty remarkable down there! I'll write up a report tomorrow night with some photos, everyone have a great weekend!

  32. You are an angler that I can appreciate, LOL!!!! I use hard jerkbaits all season, suspending in cold water and now floating in warm water. You like the short rod that has the tip to work the bait but the flex to land the barely hooked fish. Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'3" M-MF casting rod, it is barely 3oz but is deceivingly powerful. The rod is rated for 1/4oz to 5/8 but I have used 1/2oz baits and the rod handles them with no problem, in fact you might think it is rated to a higher weight based on how well it does with 1/2oz and 5/8 is just as good. The rod is a moderate fast action and I really like the way Fenwick does it, the rod doesn't have a parabolic action like others rated moderate fast, instead it acts like a fat action rod but it loads really well so you can sling a 1/4 or 3/8oz bait a long way for a shot rod. Once you make the cast you can work the bait without it bending really far, I hated that when I tried using a cranking rod for jerkbaits, I don't know how some do it, anyway, you can really work the bait and when you hook up the rod has a deeper flex than just a medium power with a fast action. I think this is what will work for you, I was a big fan of my G.Loomis JBR 752C which is a medium power fast action but it struggled with the heavier baits so I wanted a rod that could handle the bigger baits and I got it in a MH Fenwick ET Smallmouth which is a 6'10" with a moderate fast but it is more stout than the 6'3" but the 6'3" handles the small 1/4oz and 3/8oz baits much easier and the length is super nice for control. If you like the short rod I think you'll really like this one.

  33. 6'3 medium Abu Vendetta. I think it'd work well. Definitely recommend much lighter line though like 10-12lb. 15-20 hybrid is like weed whacker string. Lighter line will give better action and more distance. I prefer a mod-fast for them, but a fast will work. Some people like a faster rod to get a little more tip action.

  34. caught my first ever marked cover bass with humminbird unit today after work! This Post Spawn Bass was located in 12-14' of water in middle of lake holding close to submerged tree. 3lbs 8oz 18.5" length x 13" girth. So rewarding to use your electronics and catch fish! Super stoaked right now!

  35. Smart thing to do, try new techniques. Especially when things get slow. I'd like to do more night fishing but the gators are so thick anymore they wont leave a lure alone. Getting more annoying than mosquito's.

  37. Easy solution is for the state to ban all tournaments during spawning season like PA does. I also like the catch, weigh & release concept for tournaments.

  38. Major Bass tournaments can be very hard on Bass. Just think about a big bass caught first thing in the morning and is beat up in a live well all day and the temps soar. Then they race back to the launch and motor forty to seventy miles to a convention center. They finally get to weigh-in then the fish are transported back to the lake and released. Now add in that the tournament is held during the spawn with that added stress. The major Bass organizations are concerned with TV and money and have little concern that they are killing a percentage of Bass every tournament. Lets remember that during the spawn the very biggest and most important bass are caught and a percentage of these fish die. Frank

  39. BULLSEYE! In today's computer age, there's no excuse for hauling bass several miles to a Bass Pro Shops photo-op weigh-in, showboating them in the atmosphere, then hauling them back to a random spot far from their home. Delayed mortality cannot be accurately assessed, but is generally worse than projected. Last year, Marty Stone hosted a unique tournament on Lake Istokpoga, FL, which I thought was the cat's meow. Every boat had a weighmaster, where each bass was photographed, weighed then immediately released. If the bass was permitted to contact the boat's deck, the angler was imposed a time penalty during which he couldn't fish. Add "barbless hooks" to this scenario and we're cooking with gas. Provided a rule applies equally to all participants, it poses no hardship or disadvantage to anyone. Roger

  40. Lol Idk why I even get fishing license because I forget my wallet in the truck 90% of the time I fish...
    1 point
  41. Better do another google search! Today's bass boats have far better live wells than those of your tournament fishing days! I've seen mortality rates of 83.67-92.88% in small local tournaments
    1 point
  42. Unless the fish is mortally wounded, immediate release results in nearly 100% survival. The biggest issue I have observed is tournament fishing with bass held in the live well when air temperature is high. There was a terrible instance at Falcon (B.A.S.S.) a few years ago and we (BassResourse Roadtrip) observed a massive kill at Kentucky Lake during a FLW tournament. With today's technology an easy solution in my opinion is video recording, weighing and imediate release. The weigh-in could be staged like a rock concert with all the bells and whistles.
