  1. . Y'all need to fish more if 1 ounce is causing you fatigue. Maybe you guys need a heavier reel to work out those arms lol. Think of it as lifting weights. Use a heavier reel and you'll be stronger in the end and your arm won't hurt.

  2. How would you fish it!? #2 I thought this would be a interesting, fun idea: I give you a photo of a spot and i give you the current conditions. You are given five baits that you must pick from to use. Some of the baits may be difficult to use during given conditions or new to you. You must chose a bait from the five baits, explain your reasoning, and how would you work it (speed, etc.) The spot: Conditions: Sunny, few clouds in sky, warm water, late May, mid to high 70's ( degrees ), rapid dropoff to deep hole, stained water, mid day, slight breeze The baits: [photos not actual scale] 1. Strike King Redeye Shad, Bluegill color. 1/2 oz 2. Gary Yamamoto Senko, 5 inches, Pumpkin black flake color 3. Strike King KVD Jerkbait, Crystal shad color 4. Storm Live Kickin' Minnow 5. Moreau Baits Topwater Field Mouse

  3. Going down to CT tonight coming back Sunday morning... Hopefully I'll be able to get some fishing in at my favorite bass river the Housatonic. It is loaded with 2lbs smallies and is crazy fun when the bite is on, which it usually is, catching a decent smallie thrown in with the occasional trout nearly every cast some reaching over 20"... My girlfriend will be on camera duty with the GoPro LOL the scenery is pretty remarkable down there! I'll write up a report tomorrow night with some photos, everyone have a great weekend!

  5. Lake Hopatcong, NJ! Caught a lot of fish in this one but again no giants. Every single bass was caught on a Texas-rigged, weightless, white Senko. There is also an interesting incident with part of a bridge falling on us in the video, lol.

  6. This is just something i've heard, but seems as reasonable as anything else: tick em off. use a buzzbait and just keep running it by until they're angry enough to shut it up. or try a scent.

  7. When fish are doing that and changing your presentation doesn't do the trick, change lure size and/or colors. They're telling you it's almost right, but not quite. So a simple change like that usually does the trick!

  13. I didn't like Super 8 Slick on my baitcasters because it had a little more dig-in than I liked. I think maybe you're seeing the same thing. The line basically has dug into the spool and halts the line coming off, which of course shows during casting. I switched to Sufix 832, and have not had an ounce of problem. I think it might just be the overly slick nature of the Slick 8 braid - maybe it just lets itself dig more than the other types. I'll be watching this thread to see what others might offer for direction.

  14. I use a medium speed reel. Low gear ratios are for deeper cranks. When fishing a squarebill I want to go faster and you don't get as much drag from the lure because it isn't going as deep

  15. Whether it was golf or fishing I take it as it comes, I buy what I want or need and make my decision at that time. I do seem to favor some brands over others but I'm always open to try something different. When I was an avid golfer I was always buying something, much more of a fanatic than I was with fishing gear. Not only was I always looking for that perfect driver, but probably bought or had custom made new irons every 2 years, I have 4 sets in my garage now, at least 10 drivers and all kinds of wedges, only 2 putters in 40 years, lol. Every single time I put my new irons down and go back to my Callaway s2hs irons I bought in 1988. I grew up with persimmon woods, forged irons, steel shafts and every balata ball I owned had a smile in it when I was a kid. Next time I play I may wear my plus 4's.

  17. It is a fun lure. I usually have my son use them and he catches about a ton of sunfish on them. Every once in a while a bass.

  18. Redid a few of my pics on my Living Rubber Skirts and thought I'd post some. Rubber is plain, and lacking a lot on color selection, but as many of you know it really comes to life in the water. Using all the colors available you can get some pretty colorful combos that work great. The Black N Blue one is a 100 strand skirt on a 1 oz head. Little thick for my taste, but I have to admit, as I make more of them it is starting to look good.

  19. Senko, wacky rigged. I'd cast it to the deep hole, let it sink and drag it up the drop off. And along the shorelines. Not my first choice in these conditions and location, but out of the 5, this is what I would pick.

  20. The Red Sox have certainly handled the Braves. Lackey had 9 or 10 Ks too. Things are looking a little better tonight, but when they blew a 6-1 lead in ATL to a Sox team who had lost 10 in a row I knew it could have started something...As far as La Stella, they had to do something. Uggla and Pena are both hitting below or at .200. So he really can't be worse than what we had. Maybe he can be a top of the order guy so Freeman can drive in some runs.

  21. I would probably pick the senko to fish from the deep hole all the way to the shoreline. The lipless crank would come in a close second.

  22. First of all welcome to BassResource. I only use a few different trailers on jigs. The Rage Chunk in the winter and early spring or when using a living rubber only jig. The Rage Craw when using a living rubber jig with silicon skirt added, and a Zoom Speed Craw when I'm out or Rage Tail stuff.

  23. Looks like my post got deleted, I originally also said to check out big baits... Many lakes around here have eels and small snakes and boy the snake lures get destroyed around weeds/stumps!

  24. Do a google search for "Wobble Head Worm". Do not post a website link since the company is not a site sponsor. This rig is DEADLY in North Louisiana during the summer. I always have one tied on from mid June through September. Very popular lure in this region but virtually unknown anywhere else.

  25. Hi Blackmax135, What you need are true Topographic Maps that you get from the USGS. If your lakes are man made then you want a Topographic map that predates the construction of the lake. You will be able to locate all kinds of structure that is in the lake bottom. Creeks, graveyards, railroad beds, roads, hills, ditches, town sites and such. It is amazing what you can discover about your lakes. Frank

  27. I used it for a bit when I was learning braid and didn't have any issues. However I would take Scott F's advice and use another knot. The 5-7 turn Uni has served me well with all lb. tests of Power Pro.

  31. If you fish alot it has happened to almost everyone. I always keep a heavy duty big garbage bag in the boat and a roll of toilet paper. Empty the live well, put the bag in, some paper to obsorb liquids, sit down and make a happy!!!! I have waved to people as they go bye. Almost as good as the throne at home.

  32. KVD Line and Lure is a rare product. Why you ask, because it does exactly as it advertises. No exaggerated boasts, no false claims, just a product that works as advertised. What more could you ask for?

  34. Pick up a Pflueger Trion spinning reel and spool it up with 6-8# Trilene XL and mount on a Med/fast rod. When you're ready for the next step pick up a BPS Pro Qualifier baitcast reel in 6.4 or 7:1 on sale ($70 +/-), some 12# Trilene XT and a MedHvy/Fast casting rod. These should get you going inexpensively, but will remain serviceable as your skill and needs evolve.

  35. Bingo. Especially the weightless flukes. Couple of my favorite small lakes get completely weeded over late May/early June every year. At the peak, I can't even get a boat on them. But before and after the peak, when most people ignore those lakes, I'll get out and drag a fluke across the tops very successfully. ......Thanks to Bassresource's videos, flukes have gone from zero confidence bait to full confidence bait.

  36. I posted this a few minutes ago on the other ShakE2 thread: Also try lifting the ShakE2 just of the bottom and letting it sit before moving it forward. I caught a +/- 6lb bass yesterday using this presentation riggrg with a GYCB Kut Tail (green pimpkin/ black flakes).

  37. I remember it very clearly. It was a beautiful day and I was out with my friend Shane. He was having a rough go of things as his little sister had died of cancer not too long before and I wanted to take him out in my little tiny rowboat just to get out there and fish- he is my #1 fishing buddy and he hadn't been out in a while. We had a cooler full of beers and snacks, loaded tackle boxes and a full day to float away. We went to a larger area pond that we frequent that has great cover vegetation and structure, and it was in full swing. We mush have caught 75+ bass that day out of that little 8 foot rowboat. Back-to-back-to-back catches, both catching fish at the same time, and just beautiful little consistent 2-3lbers like I've never seen before. We were hootin' and hollerin' and high fivein' all day- and nobody else on the lake was catching anything! Well as the day goes on the wind picks up a bit and we had no anchor with us, so we were getting blown around quite a bit. After about two hours of constant adjustments, we were ready to pack it up. Shane says in total frustration "Man, what I wouldn't do for an anchor right now, this is ridiculous! I've had it!!" literally not even 10 seconds later, I noticed a piece of yellow rope coming up from the depths. I row over, he grabs it and wouldn't you know it- the other end was tied to a rock! We had just been given an anchor in our hour of need! He gets it in the boat and we look at each other and he says "Thanks AJ!" (his sister) He went on to beat his personal record for most fish caught that day. We fished probably 3-4x a week for the next two years or so. Thanks AJ indeed. Talk about the healing ability of fishing... I know for a fact that he really needed that outlet and that day was just the perfect example in my mind of what fishing is about: Getting away and clearing your mind- even if it's just down the street you're a world away when that lure hits the water and something slams it.

  40. I was 19 went to see my uncle who lives outside of Topeka KS, -Auburn. He lived on a farm and took me to one of the farm ponds that was on his property. He said it never gets fished and to have at it, he had to go get some work done. I had a chummin minnow spinnerbait and proceeded to catch a bass every cast for a good hour. They were all roughly the same size 18"-19" so no lunkers but still my most memorable trip/outing. That trip was the last time I got to see my uncle as well so I think of it as his last gift to me.

  43. youre setting the hook too soft and too slow. as soon as you feel the strike, set the hook hard atleast harder than you have been, and dont waste time, set it right away when you detect the strike. its just like a spinnerbait to me.

  44. I dont know about survival rates after bass are released but I GUARANTEE that the survival rate is higher in bass that hit water vs bass that hit oil.

  45. There's a lot of variables in that question. Some it won't matter what you do, they won't make it. A vast majority will make it when handled properly though. It just stands to reason that if there was a "decent chance" that each bass would die after being caught that popular lakes would be littered with rotting bass.

  46. It bothers me so much because I don't have enough purple on my deck. As for girly. You worry about the fashion side of fishing and I'll continue to catch fish. Yes it's better then the max. In my opinion it's a pretty good jump over the max series.
