During the Bass Resource Road trip this year I had the opportunity to fish the new Rage Bug a little bit and have been fishing the few I have left. To say the least in one day the Bug quickly became my favorite creature styled bait I own. It is a little slimmer design then some of the brands I have fished and seems to glide through the water easier while having more limb movement due to the Rage designed curves. I am very impressed with this bait. It fits my style of fishing creature baits perfectly. I have also found that it is a very easy bait to pitch, and even pulls through the veggies very well with either a punch rig or a flipping weight. It is an extremely universal creature. Its one that I definitely will keep in my box.
I've attached a picture of the last two I have.
The black and blue one is on my Tungsten punch rig with an Owner Flipping hook. The green pumpkin is just to show the bait.
I got back into bass fishing last year and have just been using some old gear that I had and a BPS carbonlite with a PQ reel. I bought plenty of plastics, jigs and lures in the interim but I was ready to upgrade my gear. Thanks to everyone here for all the input over the last year and advice. Here are the 3 new set ups I got along with lots of terminal tackle, line and some lures, jigs and plastics....

I am excited to get everything and hit the lake.
I like and use all three of the big Rage worms, and feel like they each have a time and a place. I have used the Anaconda a lot on a Rage Rig and weightless in the shallow grass and pads. It's also great on a weighted Tx rig. Oh, and yes, I use chartreuse on the tail all the time. My favorite, and one that I've caught some of my biggest fish on, is the Recon. Never found a worm that catches more big fish than this one. I do love the Thumper when fishing muddy water, or at night. Probably the best worm on the market for that stuff. For swimming, I like the Cut'R, and am waiting for the big 10" version to come out.
A little Western Md update. Went last night after work. Fished from 7:30-9:30 and ended the night with around 18 bass. Had 4 in the first 20 minutes. All on a Tx rigged rage craw except 5 were on a cavitron buzzbait. First topwater fish of the year for me. The 3.6 was on my 2nd cast with the buzzbait. Feels good to finally get into them.

The Pop-R just doesnt have the right noise that the yo-zuri had. Right now the fish are addicted to my last one, its a golden lure catching me more and bigger fish this year than all other baits combined.
Webertime & Road Warrior
Im trying to avoid the $$ lures because the snook and tarpon tear all the lures up after just a few days of fishing. But I will check the Jackal out, it sounds like what Im talking about, thanks webertime.

Oh man, the lotion thing again.......... Queebs me out! John Wayne never used lotion. Grandpa Red Neck never used lotion. Im kinda proud of looking like an alligator!
You can get pretty much any popper to bloop, use a clinch knot (tied direct no split ring), and slide it to the top of the tie. Use a slightly slower rod, and work the lure with more of a drag than a snap, with less slack on the front end. They will also push water, walk the dog, and do all sorts of dances, but why? splish man, splish...Now, (to the OP), go put some lotion on your hands...
I can only seem to get my spinners undressed after dinner and a movie? It seems like most people like their spinners undressed from the get go. Wish I could figure that one out.
Absolutely Deadly!
I gave all my Sweet Beavers away!
I don't know what the color is cause I got a Big-O sack of them from that Big Ole Texan but they are a two tone watermelon (top/Bottom)
My 13 year old grandson said that's death in a bag right there
Fishing this past weekend was exceptional. I usually take a friend of mine fishing this weekend ever year. More often then not we go smallmouth beds fishing. It is fun we catch lots of fish but this year we decided to go fishing for some hawg largemouth. We fished all day Saturday and Sunday as well as 4 hours on Monday. In the three days I caught 46 largemouth and 24 smallmouth. My friend caught a bunch of bass as well including the three biggest bass of his life. The weather was very perfect for fishing. It was in in he low 70s each day and we had passing showers each day with relatively calm conditions. The water temperature was as warm as 65 degrees. It was mostly cloudy each day. There were still some smallies on beds but we were already seeing bass fry. We concentrated most of our effort fishing fro big largemouth. We caught them on a variety of lures, plastic worms, jigs, spinnerbaits, crankbaits and even caught a few on a frog. It was an amazing weekend. Each day we caught some huge bass. For the 3 days between the two of us we caught 7 bass larger then 5 lbs and a few very heavy 4s as well. We landed quite a few fours and a bunch of 3s. It was the best weekend of fishing that my friend and I had ever had while fishing together. It was a great time for sure. It was a bummer losing a ginormous lunker on one of the last cats of the day but, such things happen. I think that my friend will want to go fishing to that lake again soon.

The spawn is over in my favorite pond I fish. This weekend I really stuck too much to my spawn lures/presentations, with no luck. So I switched it up to a Strike King Shim-E Stick in Red/Black wacky rigged, and man that baby lit em' up. I caught some before the worm even got to the bottom, that's the kind of fishing I like!
Looks like the summer Senko season is here!
Okay so we all know that Big O's products are very popular here on BR. For good reason too.
I own a fair amount of different rage baits and they always produce for me. Some more than others. So I'd like to hear some of your favorite styles and how you prefer to fish them.
My absolute favorite bait and presentation would have to be the craw/lobster on a tx rig with a 3/16 or 1/4 tungsten weight. I like to pitch it to cover, just as much but with a little more weight sometimes. I also like the rage rig too. I'll save them to use as jig trailer once they get torn up. A little mend it and cutting off about a 1/2" and they're good to go.
7 and 10" anaconda
8" recon
7" thumper
All Tx rigged with 3/16-3/8 tungsten weight
Shellcracker - I've had no luck with it. Tried it Tx rigged normal and sideways. Weighted and weightless
Smokin' rooster - Mostly the same as above. I've fished it on bottom and on top the water. Only fish caught on it were by pitching it to cover.
Toad - Self explanatory really. Hold on tight!
Happy Memorial Day Everybody.

Teal
That was well said, I can only add that I could have never said it better,,,,,very good post Teal!!!!!! and so very very true!!!! Thanks to each and everyone that cared so much!!!!!!!
I always have these with me, unless, of course, I'm not fishing.
Space Monkey / Evo Shake2 jighead
Lobster / T-rigged
Baby Craw / finesse jig trailer
Shellcracker / Rage rigged
Menace / fin-tech jighead
Cut-r worm / jighead or t-rigged or weightless
I'm loving the bug. Its a great bait. So far I've fished it t-rigged and on a drop shot. Next time I'm out I'm gonna have to try it rage-rigged and as a jig trailer
Most topics have been posted multiple times. Nothing new there. 50 posts should about cover everything under this forum's heading. Of course the threads would be way too long for most people to even consider reading. I know I wouldn't.
Try using the search feature first and if you can't find and answer then post. This has been asked multiple times...
Here is something similar I posted about this: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/137242-mono-for-cranks/?fromsearch=1
Yea... Rub it in fellas... Looked at BPS in Clarksville and no go... I hear July to August..
I got other stuff... But Dang.. Really been wanting to throw it.. Patience, I know
Tie a Palomar knot to secure the #1 or 1/0 drop shot hook to your fluorocarbon line.
Then run the hook through the middle of the Senko and you are ready to go.
To protect the Senko from being torn easily, purchase some Gardner Bender 3/8 Polyolefin Heat Shrink Tubing and cut one of the strips into 1/4 inch (+/-) sections. Slip the small section of the tubing onto the worm so that the worm flies like a butterfly when you center the tubing and move the worm up and down with your fingers.
Heat the tubing onto the Senko and run the hook between the tubing and the Senko's skin.
Thank Ike for this suggestion.
Big fan of the 1/4 5/16 3/8 texas rig'd Rage Craw, Anaconda, recon, and lobster.
I punch the shellcracker ALOT. I think Hooligan let the cat out of the bag /w that one.
Im sure I'll navigate towards the rage bug at some point but I have too many RI beavers before I switch.
Rage Toad..Duh.
to this day I've still never tried The Menace. I can never find any.
Just started using Rage Tail this year. Ive been killing em on the Craw and Baby Craw. I fish them Texas-rigged with a 1/8-1/4oz tungsten bullet and red glass bead. I also use them as jig trailer. For small jigs I bite a Baby Craw in half. I now always have a Craw or Baby Craw rigged up and find myself going to that rod first and most often.
Unless the fish is mortally wounded, immediate release results in nearly 100% survival.
The biggest issue I have observed is tournament fishing with bass held in the live well
when air temperature is high. There was a terrible instance at Falcon (B.A.S.S.) a few
years ago and we (BassResourse Roadtrip) observed a massive kill at Kentucky Lake
during a FLW tournament.
With today's technology an easy solution in my opinion is video recording, weighing and
imediate release. The weigh-in could be staged like a rock concert with all the bells and
whistles.
Spawn season is another way to tell how good the survival rate is in states where it is catch and release only. You can catch a bass that has obviously been caught 4 times in the last week (I always feel bad when that happens), but they are still alive and kicking.
There's a lot of variables in that question. Some it won't matter what you do, they won't make it. A vast majority will make it when handled properly though. It just stands to reason that if there was a "decent chance" that each bass would die after being caught that popular lakes would be littered with rotting bass.
Dwight, I still can't believe the size of the smallmouth you are catching in Lake Erie. I really need to get a boat, and make it to Erie more often. I am only 20-30 mintues from it, and can fish from Buffalo to Erie.
Keep posting the hogs, you have me shooting for these pigs this year.
Teal, I think you post is wonderful, I read it this morning, and come back to read it again. After serving a little over 20 years in the Military it is great to know that there are people that feel like like yourself, kind of makes it all worth it.
Thanks for making me smile.
You know I appreciate that post Teal, I really do...
I served 8 years.... It did come with a cost.
I wouldn't change a thing, I am and was Honored to serve this country that I love... So very much
Yeah, you can get them from basspro, or TW that I've seen. I have not seen them at academy. Just a little black oring that you slip over a senko and slide to the middle then put your hook through it. Just keeps that senko compressed on the hook a little better so you dont loose them so much when you cast, in a perfect world the senko is supposed to slide up the line when you hook a fish. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't haha. But for the price of them, they sure are a cheap insurance and saves you money in the long run.
Getting plastics that I know the bass will be lining up to bite. Start fishing them and not even getting bit or rarely getting bit. Maybe I should start sacrificing one to get the mojo working.
