FivePoundBluegill Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Well I dont know the exact weight of this fish to be honest since I did not have a scale at the time but I know it was over 15 LBS. It also gave me the best fight I had with a fish so far this year! The first run this fish made took the drag all the way out to the middle of the lake. I got him to turn and then he ran straight into some boat docks. He came out and made another run to the middle of the lake. I got him to turn again and got him in close. This guy offerd to net the fish for me and I said he could. I got the fish in close to me and he made another run to the opposite shore of the cove. I then had to work the fish back to me again. By this time he was pretty tired and the guy with the net was able to net the big koi pretty easily . What a fight this fish made on 10 LB test. The fight must have been about 10 minutes! You may be asking now "How can you say its a 15 LB+ without weighing it on a scale". Well I met up with my friend Chase later and caught a common carp which was smaller than the koi. Chase had a didgital scale to weigh this common on and he was just under 14 LBS. This fish did not fight very hard. I didnt think I had a big fish almost the whole fight since he was not makeing any big long runs. I could feel weight at the end of the rod though as this fish swam back and forth. We landed this one in less than 5 mins. Here are the pics of the common that was just under 14 LBS. Quote
MichiganFisherman Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Wow, that's a big fat koi. What's the record? Congrats man! Quote
VolFan Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 That's easily 15 lbs, I'd probably guess more than that. Nice fish Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 22, 2009 Super User Posted February 22, 2009 Don't you risk a ticket fishing in the neighborhood koi pond? Nice fish. Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted February 22, 2009 Author Posted February 22, 2009 .... I dont get why my thread got moved or what anyone could have against me here. I dont remember being a jerk to anyone and sorry if I have, I didnt mean to. I just wanted to do a report on this because I was prowd of my catch and wanted to show off. I also thought other people would be interested in seeing this as well.... Whatever, if I am no longer wanted on this site I will leave. Yes I like to show off a lot but I fish for fun too not just to brag. Again sorry if I actually did upset anyone... Quote
Drewster116 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I don't know why either, But you haven't upset me none I wish I could catch them fish too lol but they're illegal to even have in Maine. it was you outing so I see why you put it where you did. <shrug> Quote

So it seems appropriate here. As far us upsetting anyone, I'm certainly not upset. I don't see any posts that would suggest anyone's upset. I happen to enjoy your posts and the pictures of the exotics you catch. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 There's nothing personal about a post being moved to the appropriate category. Happens all the time. Great fish, btw! :) Quote
bass or bass ? Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Very nice fish. Congrats. 8-) Happy fishing. ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~ Quote

Bass Tracker Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Nice Fish! I too enjoy your post and pics. Quote
MONSTERhudd Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 It got moved because you posted it in the Bass Fishing Forums. Last time I checked a Koi is not a Smallmouth, Largemouth, or Spotted bass. Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 It got moved because you posted it in the Bass Fishing Forums. Last time I checked a Koi is not a Smallmouth, Largemouth, or Spotted bass. No. I posted it in the "My Fishing Trip" not the "General Bass Fishing" section because I was doing a fishing report on a fishing trip I had. I dont have a problem with you and dont recall ever doing anything to bother you so I dont get why you seem to dislike me. Realy though if your not interested in my posts you dont have to read them though:) I dont read every thread on here just because I am not on here much, theres nothing wrong with that... Quote
NYfishwow Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 i remember you catching koi long time ago, looks like you mastered skills . Excellent trophy! Quote
Super User Dan: Posted February 25, 2009 Super User Posted February 25, 2009 Dude, that thing has got to be closer to 20lbs! Do you find that koi or koi/carp mixes fight harder than carp? I have caught plenty of carp and a few koi and I thought that carp put up more of a fight. Just wondering if your experiences are the same because you seem to be quite the expert on the two. And ignore the negative comments. Your post was moved because it makes more sense for it to be here. Sure you were posting about an outing, but the "Other Species" section is for outings/questions/comments for other fish species. No problem! That's exactly what this section of the forum is for. Quote
Drewster116 Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Well you're right the outing thread is under the bass fishing area. but you shouldn't be mean about it. Just cause he enjoys catching koi doesn't mean he cant catch bass. That's like a trout fisher saying oh you catch bass cause you don't have the skills to catch trout. without out knowing what you're capable of catching in the first place. Some people actually like catching other types of fish other then bass. nice koi tho keep it up you actually make me wanna go out and fish for a big carp this year lol. and please don't leave the forum cause of a couple people there are more people here that like you then there is that don't Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 25, 2009 Super User Posted February 25, 2009 ** MODERATOR NOTE ** #1 Posts are often moved...because we feel they belong somewhere else. It's not personal. #2 This thread has been edited and a couple of posts deleted. Being nasty is not what BassResource. com is about. If anyone doesn't care about catching crappie, koi, carp or gar...move on to another topic. We certainly don't need smart arse comments or anything from guys that don't care. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator Quote
daviscw Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 That's a huuuge fish! Nice job. Keep fishing and posting dude! Quote

Fish Chris Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Right on buddy ! :-) That is a very big Koi ! I remember I caught a solid, bright orange one, way back in the day, that was pushing 15lbs (on a crappy spring scale) but that one looks to be over 15 lbs to me ! Very cool catch :-) Peace, Fish Quote
swilly78 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Dude, both those fish are awsome and you are well within your rights to be EXTREMELY proud of them. What do you use for bait, I often times see big carp out here in Illinois, but have no clue about how to fish them. Any advise would be appriciated, as they look like a blast to catch! Keep it up man! Quote
